With 1 payrise since 2007 I'm starting to feel the pinch a little bit. Yes i can make it up with overtime , but sometime's i would prefer not to work a Saturday and spend more time with my family. So this is what i've done and it seems to have paid off :)

I put cards on the notice boards at work (5000+workers) saying where i lived , my mobile number and whether anyone wanted a lift into work who lived near me and how much a week. I thought nothing would come of it but within a few hours i took calls from people who wanted a lift into work. I can only fit 4 into my car and so far I'm making £320 a month!! - £80 of that is put back into the car. I'm going that way anyway and making money!. The best thing is I have people on a waiting list.

Just thought I'd share my profit making scheme in these hard times .....

Opened thread expecting someone asking how to get rich on an internet scheme, was pleasantly surprised :)

This. OP when you are a multi billionaire looking down on the world from your ivory tower, you will remember us poor folk on OcUK forums, won't you? :p

Good job and great idea ;)

How much are you charging them exactly... seems an awful lot of money considering it's petrol money split between 5 folk.

Do you like 50 miles away from work or something?

He's said he puts £80 into the car so I suspect that's for petrol a month. My Diesel Car gets around 450 miles to £70 so he can't be travelling that far to work

Do you know of a bus/taxi service that picks you up where is convenient to you, at exactly the time you want to travel, and takes you home again in the same manner for £4 a day?

It's only 4 folk and it's a return trip! £20 a week and it's only 8.5 miles to get there plus 8.5 miles back. We are on a 3 shift pattern so when backshift finishes there's no bus back into the Sunderland City centre so the only option was taxi's for them.

Plus maybe , the convenience of getting home in 15 minutes instead of it taking an hour using public transport.

my dads got a zafira as a second car for ferrying my sister and her 5 kids lol

its a suprsingly small car and i think he only paid 2k for it

Its suprising how cheap you can buy a good old second hand people carrier these days. I've had use of a mate of mines Seat alhambra TDI a couple of times which is quite nippy and comfortable.

Fully Comp. Picking my 4 friends up for work. All legal.

as long as the £20 is only a donation to your petrol fund. that £320 profit should not be talked about.

otherwise you need a taxi licence plates etc. swell as update your insurance etc.

good idea but in a dark grey area as to legalities.

They all live within a mile (ish) radius of me and I take them to work. We do a 8 hour shift on our various departments i take them home. I'm not doing anything illegal or sinister i don't think

Your make a tidy profit out of it. Not that I care or anything... however if they are your "friends" why are you making £200+ profit each month out of them.

Why not just charge the petrol money?

Sounds good to me, ignore the do gooders and there silly legal talk, its just between some people, not like PC plod and some lawyers follow you around everywhere, if you ask me its petrol money and depreciation of the car and wear and tear right ;) that's right me old son !

You are making profit beyond petrol costs from doing this. That automatically changes your legal situation. You need to be careful of insurance, tax, and potentially some other legal aspects.
