Sleeper/Under the radar cars

Toyota soarer if running costs are critical. look like a grandad type car but certainly shift with either 278 or 261 bhp depending if its a v8 or 2.5tt. You'll only get an auto in your budget tho.

Toyota Aristo? Its a great sleeper, basically a Lexus GS300 with the same engine as a Supra so ~330bhp standard and will hit 400 for peanuts, pretty unbreakable, fully loaded, great build quality, and looks like a normal mid sized executive saloon.

The OP mentioned Galants in his opening post, and as he's after a sleeper he's hardly going to be interested in the NA now is he :P

He is if he doesn't know what a sleeper is.

Surely the answer is obvious, Octavia VRS?

not exactly that much of the sleeper, big spoiler, sport bumpers, 17" alloys, etc.

A true sleeper would be getting a 1.8t 4x4 octavia and the remaping it.
will be around 210bhp, same engine/ k03s turbo as the vRS and with the same haldex as the r32/s3, so shouldn't affect reliability that much.

looks like a bog standard octavia from the outside, stick a 1.4 16v sticker on the back and you're set.:D

Point taken

He mentions that he's been looking at 'petrol Mondeos' for example which probably means the 2.0. Then he says he's concerned about engine size, too. To me it strikes me that he wants something similar to a 2.0 Mondeo and just doesn't realise that to most a sleeper is something thats bonkers fast but doesnt look it.

The only time he mentioned engine size was when he said he is considering cars that might be rare/unpopular due to having big engines. Also said mpg is of little concern.

Anyway OP, I was looking at similar vehicles for when I change from my Omega (a great option for you to consider) when I'm back in the UK. I looked at most of what's been mentioned and ruled them out for reasons such as disastrous interiors and being FWD, and I settled firmly on, and wonder why it hasn't been mentioned in this thread so far, an E39 5-series. I'm almost certainly going for a 540 because I want a significant upgrade from the wonderful Omega, but coming from a Mondeo tractor you could get excited about the 6-pots too. A 530 would be awesome.

Either way if he meant sleeper or sleeper a SAAB 95 or 93 aero would fit the bit. They look plain go fast and demand for them is low and for that reason so are prices.
