ive already got a palit 560ti 2gb apparently another ti and ill hit 7970 speeds, though, heat and such, a single 7970 would be good, but, then, im loving nvidias phyysx and ease of drivers now, forcing 32x aa on mirrors edge on my 50 inch tv looks out of this world. help guys, hope to make a purchase before 4 today

if u like the nvidia route, can you not wait until the kelpers are out? i would certainly do so if i was in your shoes.

Wait a month and see what the GTX670 offers. You might get two for the price of a 7970, and much better performance to boot.

The Kepler rumour factory has just went into overdrive again this time about a new card coming next month apparently for $300. Might be worth putting your pennies aside for another 4 weeks and see if anything comes of it.

I'd wait. AMD 7xxx are just too expensive for what they are, and SLI will always have its issues. I'd wait if I were you, 560ti is a fantastic card still, so no rush.

i spotted 7970's online for £390, i very nearly sold my 580 to get one, however I bottled at the last minute precisely because of driver support, lack of physx etc.

I am now back to waiting for what kepler brings to the party

if you can find a 560ti-2GB for a good price I would be tempted though, but 580 level performance for £225~ is awfully tempting too if it turns out to be true (and/or hoping that 580-3GB's suddenly come up for <£200)

Dont get this for example cheapest Powercolor HD 7970 3072MB same price as cheapest OcUK GeForce GTX 580 3072MB both £419.99 inc VAT.
So how can they be to expensive, faster cooler etc. Unless you think that is to expensive for top end cards, as far as my experience always been around that markup.

Yes wait a month for a card that was supposed to be the 680 yet has now become the 670 and is slower than a 7970 by all accounts.

Jesus man, seems some would hang on for Kepler even if it was dog crap.

after seeing an rma diagram on here i wouldnt touch powercolor with a barge pole with some rmas taking up to 3months, id go with msi or gigabyte who appear to be in the uk. i had a 6990m since septermber 1st all way up til last week and although performance was generally good, driver support, caps ruining my system and having to reinstall and format, no option to of used 32x aa ( that i could see) no in depth 3d setting options, no physx which i love in certain games, it just felt empty and i was always trying to source a 580m cheaply, i gave up and went desktop and chose ti for its price/performance, im using a texture mod in crysis and it all maxxed out its struggling quite a bit at about 24fps, i will wait as its just my luck id get a 7970 for 670 to come out with similar performance for <£299, if i can source a cheap ti on the bay or mm ill do that, is that not agood idea itself ?

Just because they are close in price to something else that is also ridiculously overpriced doesn't mean they aren't expensive. 5870 was exactly the same situation to 7970 but it cost £300

Didnt stop you from buying
3930K, Asrock Extreme4-m X79 which is very over priced for its performance (in my opinion and bench-tests ive seen ) against gains over, i5 and i7 oc bundle

Op can afford the 7970 he just asking what to do. 'Horses for courses' i guess each to there own and all that.

They not close but exactly the same price btw.

( ridiculously overpriced) can cover all Pc peripherals at high end lvl.

Plus if all you Nvidia guys think a 7970 beater will be cheaper you will be waiting along time to play youre games in ultra settings

To Op i have waited a year to upgrade from a 5970, missed 6 series out altogether and brought a 5870 to trifire 5970 to make do. Was fast enough at lower res but when i got a Hazro 27, they could not do 12 fps in Skyrim 2560x1440 (because of vram). So i got a XFX Black 7970 which was 100% better but could only manage about 45fps with everthing maxed out in all my games, so i sold all my old cards and got another 7970 to get 60fps at 2560x1440.
They are really good cards and are here now! so you would not regret buying one in my opinion. plus they overclock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pazza316 (7970 Trifire) - 6349
Gibbo (7970 Trifire) - 6242
jp7152 (7970 Trifire) - 6228
rjkoneill (7970 TriFire) - 4495
Vega (GTX580 Quad SLI) - 4406
Blast3r (GTX590 QUAD SLI) - 3949
W3bbo (6990 +6970+6970 Quad Fire) - 3820
NeoRed (7970 Xfire) - 3803
MisterNiceHands (GTX590 QUAD SLI) - 3758
zuludawn (5970+5870 Trifire) - 3701 (should be Xfire 7970 lol)

Xfire 7970 beats or is close to Quad SLI 580.

I thought you was waiting for kepler anyway, got that sudden urge to upgrade already? I'd go for another 560ti if you can't wait but still want to upgrade to kepler. That way when you sell your 560's, you will not make as much loss since I reckon 79** series will drop in price to compete with the supposedly <$299 670ti. But who knows..

I think that anyone who buys a 7900 series card at the moment is a little silly. Wait a month, see what Kepler offers, and if it isn't that good buy a 7900 then.

The worst that will happen is that 7900 prices will drop a bit. Alternatively the GTX670 may be a great card at a great price. You lose nothing by waiting a little while longer, and could gain (or save) much.

No, the worst that can happen is AMD get to see their competition and "do" a 5850 and 5870 and put their prices up.
Don't be silly. The 7900's are selling very poorly at current prices. AMD would completely stop sales if they hike things even slightly further. Competition always has a downward effect on prices, and Kepler will drive the 7900's down.

edit: 5800 prices increased because AMD launched them too low and the cards literally flew off the shelves. Within a few days of launch they were out of stock everywhere, and supply could not meet demand. The 7900's have the exact opposite problem. They are gathering dust because they are too damn expensive. 7900 supply exceeds demand due to stupid pricing. Even the retailer that was selling 7970's for £390 for over a week didn't run out of stock.

edit2: OcUK currently have every single air cooled 7950 & 7970 listed as in-stock. When has that ever happened before for a newly released fastest-ever graphics card? They are about as easy to sell as sand is to Arabs at current pricing.

How the hell can you make that comment, have you got access to world wide sales. Post world wide unit sales and AMD sales forecasts for first quarter 2012 plz. DONT EVER QUOTE OcUk listings in stock, ive been to shop with 10+ showing on web, to find none in stock. Plz facts not fiction. Plus world wide recession that was not here 1 , 2 , 3 years ago!!!!!!!!!!!. Plus business ethics would say never run out of a top seller surely.
