The other day my PSU popped and ever since then iv been getting random freezes and restarts. System doesnt even have to be under load it can be idle on decktop and it will lock. Totally random too sometimes after a few minutes and then sometimes although not often it can last an hour or so..

Iv got the AMD Phemon X2 555 Black edition thats had been Unlocked to B55 X4 and overlocked too 3.8ghz. Before the PSU went bang the system ran smooth as a nut and i never had a problem.

Since fitting my new PSU iv had to but the CPU back to standard meaning iv dropped it back to X2 555 and dropped the overclock along with all the voltages. But it still locks up.

Any ideas whats happening. Do you think the power serge from PSU failing has caused some hardware damage.?

Any help sorting this out would been awesome. Im needing my fix of MMO's lol

What make was your old model and what new model did you purchase.

Old one was a Evo Labs E-650W got it from local shop. Couldnt find i link for the product so took a picture of the spec.

New on was recommended by a few members on here.

When the PSU failed it can be fun trying to find what could be coursing the issue, whether it be multiple options.

You could try running mem test on your ram to rule out any possible issues with this.

Is there a possibility of testing components in another system.

If you get any errors it shows up like my faulty memory below, just leave it running for a couple of hrs:

Thankyou..

Also to add a few times when system has frozen or restarted when windows has loaded back up the time and date have all been reset to 12:00 01/01/2000. Out of around 15 crashes this has only happened about 3 times.

Might be worth replacing the CMOS battery, (not to say that will fix the locking up issues)they are cheap enough and depending on the age of the system its never a bad thing to replace anyway :-)

Right iv ran Memtest like you asked and left it running over night. And it did indeed come up with error's.

The test had gone 2 hours without error before i went to bed.

Looking at the picture and the failing address's they all seem to be round the same area (High end of my 8gb of ram) So does that mean its my 4th Stick of ram thats causing me trouble. Or is that too easy lol

Sorry if that sounded a little noobish, but rams not my strong point.

What im most confused about though is the system was still running and this program was still chugging along without the system freezing or rebooting. Where as when iv been in windows its never lasted more than a hour.

Think ill pull all the sticks out just pop one back in and run some Prime95 to see if it locks up on me.

If you have a spare hard drive lying around you can pop that in, install Windows & see if it locks up or runs ok - at least this way you can eliminate your current installation of Windows being borked in some way or not.

Is the ram set to correct timing and voltage?

I think so, the bios is set to default. CPU-Z shows timings off 9-9-9-20 which matches the specs and Voltage is reporting as 1.50v but the specs say between 1.55 and 1.65, so it is alittle low.

I do indeed have a spare HDD i could use to reinstall windows on. But for now im holding off on the road because Prime95 has been running 1 hour on 1 stick of ram and i having crashed once yet. Im going to carry on checking the ram out first then see what the out come is..

EDIT

Spoke too soon. System restarted lol Swapping sticks.

UPDATE.

Iv tried all sticks solo to try and test them.

All memory is same OCZ Gold PC3 10666 2gb sticks.

Test is Prime95 Blend.

1st stick works perfect after 2 hours of Prime, No errors.
2nd stick works perfect after 2 hours of Prime, No errors.
3rd stick failed to boot into windows.
4th stick failed to boot into windows.

All sticks register in bios just 3 and 4 fail to get past windows logo before locking up...

One question i need to ask, Since the Dimms came as pairs. Do they have to be used as pairs or are they ok to be used solo? For testing purposes i want to make sure im testing them properly.

Thanks

Final Update.

Stick 3 and 4 crash after around a hour of Memtest. Ran it about 3 times and each time same result. :(

Stick 1 and 2 Ran without error for 6 hours on Memtest and Both ran for around 4 hours on Prime95 Blend without error.

Been playing my MMO for last 4 hours too without hitch or crash. :)

Luckly Both faulty sticks of ram are from the same pack with the same serial numbers so i can carry on using my system while the Faulty stuff is sent back.

Thanks for all the input guys. And helping me solve my problems.
