Hi I'm from Windows....

I love these guys, my gf's Father has had a couple of these calls, and knowing that its complete rubbish he plays along for a while until he gets to a point where they ask him to click on the Start icon, at which point he says he is on Mac.

To top that off, the second time he did it he demanded they stay on the phone because this virus must be the thing stopping him access all of the pornography on the internet and they must help him so he can go back to watching it again because he needs to watch it!

lolz ^

With all annoying calls, sales, scams etc... I often enjoy asking them to speak up because I'm 'a bit deaf'. After continually saying this to the point they are shouting down the phone I say sorry, it's no good I still can't hear you :)

I had my first and only one of these last month, just told the guy i didnt own a computer and put the phone down.

Ive only had one email from a nigerian business man as well and it was back when i first went on line back in 1997.

If its that widespread with older non pc/tech savvy people getting scammed then what are the government doing about it? Surely some well placed public awareness ad campaign that airs while east Enders, coronation street, morse or even xfactor is on would surely see those figures of people getting scammed tumble?

But how could scammers make money on this? CC has secret answers that you only enter 3 random letters from, Paypal has "text my the password" security...

Are they going through all this trouble to put o trojan and read old people's emails?

How many people get their banking statements online, all you need to do is have a few security answers which can be stored in internet explorers history then you can go to town on amazon

I managed to string them along long enough to be put on to a "supervisor" who responded to my questions by saying "If you'll shut your bloody mouth for a minute i will tell you"...... Standard Microsoft phone training i assume!

They hardly have to have a high success rate, they just employ a bunch of Indians, give them a script and if someone hands over some cash it probably covers their whole month's wages.

Got a call, although I was asleep and my brother answered it.
While he's not like "us" on this forum, he could see it was a scam and just went "Whatever bye".

Regarding the replies about a lot of our population being 40+ / 60+ now - my grandparents are aged 82 and 86 respectively, not that good with computers. They mainly know word processor and how to respond to email. If Adobe Flash keeps nagging for an update, then it usually a call to me to walk them through updating it. Despite all this, they'll play the paranoia card, probably ask for a reference number / name / similar, then consult me. When they have no idea what a reference number is, or something that's not being part of their script, then the scam falls over immediately.

Ive had this before, it was someone trying to sellme antivirus.

I lead him on upto the point of payment, saying I wanted the full package. They hungup
