Well well , rip off British goverment again!. They are not going to abandon the 3 or so pence a litre increase in march.
How much longer is the country going to put up with this , the lorries blockaded the fuel depositorys a few years ago when it was around 90 ppl, now it will be approching 150 ppl ! .
They say if they don't increase it then they will need to add cost to something else. pLEASE do then ! , add it to cigarrettees or booze or get money off of rangers football club ! . Tax something we can do without. , but leave our dam cars alone !!

i could rinse and repeat the same tired speech, bloody government bloody labour/tories/snp-delete as appropriate every penny rise equates to £100 a year on my costs etc etc etc.

BUT i've got to the point i've realised this countries leaders have an irrational hatred for anyone that dares not to use the joke that is public transport or dares to rely on a combustion engine for their business hauliers taxi drivers long distance commuters etc etc etc. nothing will change and fuel prices will continue to rise, accept this and you'll be much happier in life.

the only thing that this will guarantee is that people are worse off and the incentive is there for people to start going outside the legal channels for their fuel needs. there is a HUGE black market in stolen diesel and red diesel. and all the constant rises do is push people who are already struggling towards these options all the more.

just to put it into perspective and give you an idea of the temptation put peoples way.
If i were to run my own taxi on so called illegal fuels I would save approx £6000 per year now bear in mind that in my many many years of driving including 6 as a taxi driver I have never once been stopped by customs and excise or whoever it is does tank dipping these days. obviously i'm not going to risk it because i've not got the guts to run the risk thankfully its only one car I pay the fuel bill for these days not 4.
but imagine you run a haulage company and you could save that figure every month, or week. now that is serious temptation, especially seeing as theres many companies struggling to keep their heads above water and thats the kind of saving that could be the difference between you folding your business and loosing everything or running a risk of detection and loosing everything

Our country is in serious financial woes, I'm not surprised the duty is going up.

The problem is public transport is a catch 22 situation. It needs huge investment in some areas to provide anything close to an acceptable service, however there are no customers to use it !

If customers started queuing for buses where there is just 1 bus a day in each direction (not uncommon in the area I live in) the little minibus effort that turns up couldn't cope. However, the companies aren't going to offer an every 10 minutes service when no one uses the existing service.

Public transport 'works' in London as you have so many options (bus, tube, tram, train, cabs) and it isn't that expensive for what you get. Where I live I would have to buy two separate tickets each way to get into work as I can't buy a return before 9am. It would be close to £10 a day for just that route. In London I could do UNLIMITED bus journeys for 1.70 a day on any route at any time of they day.

Until huge changes are made, people won't take it up, but the changes won't be made due to the stupidity low take up. I always get a seat (I could have 10) on local bus services here, in London I'm lucky to squeeze onto the 4th bus that turns up !!!!

Its actually quite hard to prosecute for red diesel if the diesel in the tank is from many different sources. I know someone who used to rob diesel from lots of different places and when he got caught they could not pinpoint where the fuel had come from so could only charge him for robbing the 4 25 litre drums he used to fill.

I think it would be the same if you had it in your tank. If you don't admit where it came from and they can't work out where it came from I don't think they can do that much about it. Minor conviction and a bit of a fine.

Lots of farms round here and our accounts lady is a farmers wife and they had a lot of red stolen and the police aren't in a position to do much about it. They do dipping but not really private vehicles.

if public transport was cheaper i would use it everywhere.

but im not gonna pay £2.70 for a few of stops in the local metro. its no cheaper then using the car.

Public transport is awesome, my work commute would become more expensive and instead of being a journey (there and back) of just over 90 minutes it would become a 270ish minute round trip!

If i'm doing overtime i'd have to leave the house at around 7am and get home just after 11pm, yes i could get a more local job, but everything I can do that is available locally would mean dropping a rather huge amount in pay.

Stick it on iPads and other such frivolities.

Ridiculously high fuel duty is strangling our economy.

It gets added to fuel because people HAVE to pay it.

I just had to clap at this, captain obvious!

People don't protest anymore they're too caught up in their own interests, if there was a protest like in early 2000 (or was it late 90s?), they'd probably get shot or jailed.

Things like this never go down well, especially since the so called leaders keep up their lifestyle by taxing more out of hard working citizens.

Probably the best post I've ever seen on OCUK.

Do you think that MP's take a tax 'dividend' on fuel duty or something !?

Problem being every 1p added to fuel duty. Nets the government £600million at a time of financial difficulty for the country and idiots lobbying the government like the green alliance pushing for increases in duty it's very easy for the government to put up duty as it gives them extra revenue and keeps the ecomentalists happy

If you think that because they publish spending in line with what is received in that bracket such as duty in this case then think again. The money gained goes on to Contracts awarded, projects and so on, the money taken out is more than what is necessary and quite often its someone with political power or influence. Have a look at some of the expenses your own council has, would you justify 2 million on red route markings over a 150 mile distance? 60% of the cost was "admin". Then it was shown that it could have cost as little as 250k.

Some of you are quick to jump on any comments about the government, but can dish out comments yourself quite easily - enjoy the increase ^^

I might just be being slow here but... what?
