ANOTHER shooting at a US school

The popular press will put this down to Battlefield 3 which I hear is quite popular amongst the student population.

Simple fact is there are a lot of firearms in the US and relatively easy access to them. However I would say that school shootings are probably rare in the scheme of things just because its a school and involves children / teens its headline news.

There are over 50,000 non-fatal shootings per year in the US and over 10,000 fatal shootings so in the scheme of things these school incidients form a very small portion of a much bigger problem.

First thing I noticed in that link........ Erin Knife what a cool last name.

This is still tragic news, even though no-one was killed, attempted shootings are still bad.

Why the hell would you take a gun to school anyway? I used to hate certain people at secondary school but I would never have thought to bring a gun in and shoot them.

Yes, I realise any school shooting is bad. My point is, is it an American thing, or is it something that occurs everywhere... with us just talking about the American ones far more?

there was the shooting at the lake in sweden(?) by the bloke was then declared clinically insane and of course there was dunblaine and wasn't there one in canada last year?. can't think of any others in europe or the developed world. developed world, am i allowed to say that?

I doubt this is the problem. We have easy access to knives, doesn't mean we get "regular" knife massacres in schools does it?

Difference is night and day. To use a knife is far harder to do than point and shoot. Would be intersting to see how many knife attacks there are in both countries and compare.

Simply googling European school shootings listed at least 1 per year (up until 2009) in Germany alone... Some pretty high death tolls too. I hadn't heard of any of them, not that i go out of my way to learn about such things...

Ironically, the usual argument for the second amendment is the right to use guns to protect yourself and yet none of the victims at any of these school shootings has had a gun to protect themselves.

I hope no one was mortally wounded :(
