Around 5 years ago, maybe 6, I bought a few pairs of glassed from Pakistan, from a website. I just gave them my prescription for the lenses and took measurements of pupil spacing, arm length etc. from existing glasses.

They were great quality and I've been wearing them ever since - only cost around £12 a pair.

Now I've lost the details of the company I used back then - can anyone recommend me a similar company?

I think the company you used are called goggles4u - because I ordered from them too and they came from Pakistan, wrapped in a sort of cloth bag.

Yea i need some new glasses, ive got an eye test booked for friday and planned to get some new glasses at the same time because im pretty sure i need slightly stronger ones now. thing is, the only ones i really suit are the £225 Hugo Boss ones in Boots, raging, so i look online and find them for £106 here

http://www.specsuperstore.com/products/designer_glasses/hugo_boss/boss_0369 & here http://www.fashioneyewear.co.uk/designer-frames-1/hugo-glasses/hugo-boss-0369-263-matte-black.html

I ordered some glasses off the internet before and tried to do the PD measurements, but i must have got them wrong because the glasses that came are weird to look though.

So now im in two minds, do i just pay the extortionate price in Boots, or gamble and try to measure my eyes again?

When i rang specsavers up to ask them my measurements, they got arsey and wouldn't give it to me. wtf?

Opticians are horrible when it comes to giving out your P.D measurement for some reason. I spent £150 in Specsavers, 3 days later I called up for my P.D and they told me it'd cost me £10. Disgraceful.

I would higly advise against measuring it yourself, if you really want to order your own glasses online you're best just paying Specsavers £10 for them to give it you. It really does suck but it's the only way.

Cheers

I measured my PD quite accurately by drawing my pupil location onto the lens of my glasses and then using a ruler. But at the end of the day you could always just order the frames and get Boots to glaze them.

Yea good point, i was thinking of doing that. It really is a disgrace that they wont just hand over the measurements, its really annoying. I also need to get some shades for cycling in the summer, so i guess just paying up £10 would be worth it in the long run.

Are Boots the same as Specsavers with that charge?

How about ringing around options before the eye test and asking if they will give you all the measurements - go with the option that says they will.

Pay the extra and go to a GOOD independent optician, build a relationship with them and they will take care of you for a lifetime.

I would never go to specsavers,
Their opticians are all working on commisiion if they dont prescribe glasses to enough people they get the sack. They call it the Conversion Rate that is the percentage of people through their door that they sell glasses to. When I was there the optician had left her computer on and it was a message from head office about how to increase the conversion rate. So if youre at Specsavers and the optician says you need new glasses I would check whether you really do or whether its just to increase the Conversion Rate.

I know ppl that work at specsavers and they put real pressure on them to sell glasses.

Same. I still use mine weekly at the pictures. Great set of glasses especially for the price!

to be fair Independent opticians match/offer cheaper than the multiples in a lot of cases and a lot of their standard frames are actually better quality. They are also more likely to want to go out of their way to help you out.

Just got my specs from specsavers, and i asked him for my PD which he gave instantly. No charge. Though i did pay £160ish for the spectacles and the eye test.

I paid for the glasses in full from Boots in the end, i said that i want my PD for cycling glasses and also for safety glasses, they said they dont give it out, raging as i had just spent £350 in there!

Probably would have been easier just taking a photograph.

I work for Specsavers and by law we actually have to give you your PD measurement if you request it. I know in my store we don't charge you for it but it is a requirement that you have purchased glasses from us before. The reason for this being that we take the measurement when making your glasses and therefore it's your data if you want it. However, we accept no responsibility for the measurement if it's used elsewhere and you then have problems. We have a leaflet detailing this which we give to customers who request there PD.

A PD however is not a measurement taken when you have an eye test so having an eye test and expecting a PD to be taken will get you no where unfortunately. Business being business it's not in our interest to give you a PD to buy your glasses somewhere else and nor should we.

Write a complaint to there head office. Or request (will cost the £10 though) every single little bit of data they have about you on there system. I believe they have to respond and fulfil this request within 24 or 48 hours as well.
