D-14 or antec 920 water

compared with the 920 on low fans, the noctua will be quieter and marginally cooler

the 920 on high fans will be marginally cooler, but much noisier

the 920 will also be more expensive

if you want water cooling you are much better off with a custom loop, for not much more than that 920 like;

I've got a thermalright silver arrow and it is brilliant, but may have issues fitting with stupid big RAM heatsinks if you have those

if you want cheap / quiet / good, go with high end air, if you want maximum overclocking and don't mind paying a premium, go with custom water (a complete kit to make fitting easier), the sealed loop watercoolers try to fit somewhere in between price wise and end up falling down on performance / noise

Also depends what case you have, the NH-D14 is huuuuge. If you can fit the noctua I'd save some coin and get the phanteks cooler, performs slightly better and won't look like someone has thrown up all over your heatsink.

this, or try a silver arrow, if you can find one, same performance as a D14 but cheaper.

extreme fan level is very noisy and not possible to live with. at 4.5ghz it is doing fine, load at 60ish and gives you the room for tall rams. Installation is very easy as well.

D-14 = UGLY, just watched a review and under prime it got a fantastic crap max 75c.
My corsair A50 much cheaper, not so big and ugly hit 75c max under prime.

Go for an Amiga 1200 instead.

I doubt your Corsair A50 offers the same cooling performance as the Noctua NH-D14 if tested using the same processor with the same overclock.

No doubt.

joke between me and gazza although it is true my A50 only hit 75c max under prime after 3 hours with SB 2500K @ 4.6ghz and the D14 hit the same 75c under prime but not sure what processor or speed was being used.

Ah, a private joke.

Hopefully no one who isn't in on the joke was going to read your post and take it seriously.

theres got to be someone on here thats got a d14 and a sb i5 at about 4.6 that can shed some light on what temps they get. as spankingtexan says we hit 75c under full load with prime after running for hours on a 20 odd quid cooler i want to make sure ill be getting far better results by buying either a d14 or antec 920 before parting with my money.

Results in Sig but have a read of my reviews. The noctua is the better choice, excellent performance and quiet. The antec requires high rpm fans to get similar performance and the installation isn't the best. Screw the retention bits too tight and you end up flexing your board. No such danger with the Noctua or the K2 which is an alternative.

The k2 retention bracket is fantastic, probably the best ive ever used. The little rubber anti vibrationp pads that cover the ends of the bracket are a nice little touch. Supplied fans are also very good as well, quiet even under load, 73c max with LinX, which generates more heat than p95.

The video watched used a i7 920 and d14. I'm sure temps would be much better with a SB, as I reported the temps seemed a little high for a top end air cooler and accurately reported max 75c on a SB using a A50 with an overclock of 4.6ghz.

I did however provide inaccurate temps for the d14 when I said it maxed at 75c. it actually went into the 80's in the video.

oops, sorry 92c
