i used to frequent the chinese places. 3 courses for 8 euro. was delicous. i even caught the bus/tube, specifically to go there the one time when my friend was ill. i said i was making the trip especially to go and get him some paracetomol but really, it was because i wanted another spring roll, special curry and ice cream sundae!
make sure to go to the trastervere in the evenings, it gets going at around 1am there monday - sunday.
cant recommend any specifics as it was all in foreign when i went but go into one of the small pizzarias and get a supli, sooooo gooood.
i would say to avoid the fancier looking restaraunts if you dont no italian as they will take the **** and give crap service. we went to two seperate places and got the same treatment.

definately dont touch the bread or any other nibbles, they might add it to the bill anyway but argue that you didnt want or eat it and get it taken off the bill.
not all places do this though
In terms of Rome city centre, I don't know where to eat. I visit Rome regularly as my brother lives and works there.
If you have time and fancy something a bit different, get the train from Rome Trasteverre or Ostiense out to Bracciano (costs about 2 euros and takes about 30-40minutes). It's a really old town, has a smell of honeysuckle everywhere because it's basically like stepping back in time. When I stay with my brother all I can imagine is the character from Assassins Creed running up the wall above me. (Photo Below).
My brother lives on the right hand side of this photo.
I personally am not a fan of going to another country and seeing a major city. Yeah sure, I've been to the colloseum and saw the Vatican, but really, 80% of Rome is a lot like any British city; modernised and industrialised for the ease of tourists and making money. I much prefer to see architecture and culture of local people, and eat in the proper restaurants that locals would recommend too...
If you did decide to go to Bracciano, I would suggest checking out the following places. Castello Orsini-Odescalchi is a medieval castle oozing with history, they do a tour that's really quite cool and the views from the top are absolutely stunning. Just outside the castle entrace, is -the- best place I have ever been to while on holiday, ever, period, finito. I can't even remember the name, but my brother's friend named Paolo has a very small wine bar, specialising in Italian and Scilian wines. His hospitality is simply astounding, and I could honestly go back to Rome right now just to go and have a glass of red and some olives. Beware though, Paolo speaks not a single word of English.
In terms of eating in Bracciano; there are several cafe type places, Fontanellas just off the main road serves great pasta and pizza at about 12 euros a head. Cafe Grande Italia on the main high street has great coffee and the dessert chef there is award winning (I mean -award- winning).
If you're a fan of history, unchanged towns that don't bend over for tourists, and cobbled streets and great historic architecture everywhere you go (like the stuff we had before we knocked it all down and put breeze block buildings back up), then Bracciano is a great place to visit. Plan ahead though, as Italian trains are notorious for going on strike and they don't run all that late into the evening.
I really enjoyed the food/snacks from the little street vendors!
Ice cream shop next to the trevi fountain was godlike! to the left I think as your looking straight onto the fountain. get a tub rather than a cone tbh, melts way too fast lol ended up feeding the mahoosive horse that was parked outside rather than my face lmao
As for drinks water alone is ridiculously priced all over the place freeze a few bottles of water over night and stick em in yer backpack or w/e
