Awesome dad is awesome...

So the mortgage is paid and you're getting BB and Sky..what about council tax, gas/electricty, water, insurance?

Owning a house is an expensive hobby, and I worry now about bills, even with a good job.. if I was on JSA I would be bricking it.

Good luck though, and let me know how you get on when the bills start coming in :)

Its the last bastion of a losing argument, picking on someone's grammar or spelling.

Obviously not, as in this case there wasn't an argument.

The issue with this thread is quite simple, the OP appeared very smug about something he should be more ashamed than happy about, and it obviously rubbed people up the wrong way.

Rubbed people in the wrong way because they're sat there in a **** job, earning 9k a year and barely managing to pay the mortgage when this guy is sat there smug as a dog after sex who's doing nothing.

Please fully star out all swearing in future. Thank you.

HOW DARE YOU BE HAPPY, I DEMAND YOU BE ASHAMED!

I just feel he was genuinely happy because it's a huge thing to be given and he wasn't in the best situation, I don't think he was being smug, that seems more like resentment on the part of people who work.

So you're playing the jealousy card as well are you?

It may apply to a handful of people, but not the majority.

Yeah I am jealous.

I'm jealous that I have to sit through college listening to people dictate to me then go off to University and have another 3 years of people dictating me so I can have three letters after my name and get a job which I'd slighty enjoy doing more than manual labour.

Where this guy is living the life and quite frankly in my eyes, doesn't deserve it.

I haven't read all 3 pages because I'm lazy....

But sure you don't have to pay rent, but what about council tax (guess that's free too, if you're on JSA... but circumstances will have changed maybe in their eyes) - also don't forget you have to pay gas/electricity/water rates too, not to mention buy food.

I do have broadband - would have bt infinity were it available in my area, and Sky HD, which I'll cancel probably as I don't really get time to watch it, due to having a job and stuff. But those two things would be waaay down on my list of things to pay for.

I just hope you're not going to be in for a massive shock soon when / if things become financially tighter. You do NOT want to be in debt to utility companies.

Only 3 letters? Sucker :p

I really wouldn't describe being allowed to live in a small house rent free (for the time being) as 'living the life'. :p

With reguards to council tax, his partner will receive a single person discount (25% off) as she will be the only one in the property that has to pay.

That's probably going to fall into band B, I would imagine. I don't know where he lives, but even a 25% discount is still a fair amount to have to pay. And she'd have to pay it if she's living there.

I didnt think unemployed people counted as adults who are not counted for council tax purposes? And if he is still employed like he says he is, but the work has dried up then definitely not.

Have you been issued a P45 OP?

I can understand some peoples reactions, some though have some solid undertones of jealousy, naturally.

So long as you're actively seeking another job and not going to sit on it living the easy life then big congrats to the OP, it's not often we get that sort of luck in life, and it's only natural to want to both publicly thank your dad and have a bit of a show off about the fact it has happened. Like i say though, get a job and no one can have any hard feelings (if you haven't already.....not read the whole thread)

Personally had a similar albeit not quite as good piece of luck recently, been struggling to find a house big enough for me, missus and baby that we could afford. Luckily missus dad turned around and said, "we're moving out, we'll rent you our house for what you can afford" £650pm for a huge 4 bed detached :D (average house that size here would normally cost more in the region of £850pm or more) 11 days to go!!!!!!!

She wont get the discount*

*My partner is unable to work due to sickness at the moment and is receiving ESA - I still have to pay the full amount.
