James Murdoch leaves News International

Tactical pre-eggface \thread

They know he's going to get it, so they are distancing him from the NI brand as much as possible. He's still part of the empire.

I thought he seemed a fairly decent guy at the inquest. I imagine he just wants to ensure he stays out of the spotlight.

He's still very heavily involved in News Corporation though so I don't see the big fuss about this.

Presumably the Murdoch brat has stepped down either because he is incompetent or because he is a crook.

Despite this, he retains responsibility for News Corp's 39% stake in BSkyB - go figure

Just curious if most reasonable people on this forum (i.e. excluding Robbo) think, after what they've heard in the Levenson Enquiry, that James Murdoch is a fit and proper person to be in charge of a television company? The way his resignation statement was presented, it makes it sound like the Sky bid will be back on shortly.

I dunno, maybe they just think that phone hacking and the behaviour of the press as witnessed during the Levenson Enquiry isn't acceptable?

It's not acceptable but it was also blown way out of proportion.

I still think the term 'hacking' is crediting it with rather too much sophisitication. Was it not simply done by using the default voicemail pin? Thats not really hacking any more than opening a safe using the manufacturers default code is 'safe cracking'.

Why do people care?
Because they heavily influenced the politics of this country for decades, so if they are not squeaky clean then that means our democracy has been undermined.

I doubt if he is particularly tainted but they did kill off NotW to save him at the expense of a lot of journalists jobs. I don't suppose many would complain if the door smacked his head on the way out.

What have I said that's unreasonable? If you're going to make statements like that you're going to have to elaborate.
