ASUS MARS ii at a famous auction site.

Well I never said that the Ares II was a common sense logical card...

I just pointed out the reasons they sell, stupid or not they do sell.

I saw a Mars (1) sell on Ebay for over a grand last week. Two 285s on one card that overheated and had all sorts of problems. Didn't stop it selling for a small fortune !

Why would I want something that performs a lot worse than 7970 CF?

Because you are stinking rich. It's an exclusive item that you know full well most can not afford.

Most people can go out and buy two 7970. Not many can afford to frivolously throw away £2600 and buy two Ares II and slap them in SLI. But some did.

Why would I want something that performs a lot worse than 7970 CF?

Why is there a thread on here today asking when the 7990 is coming out when it's common knowledge it won't be as fast as two 7970s and will cost more than two 7970s?

In order to maximise your success in this world you need to be able to think like others. To see the world through their eyes.

Bottom line? Asus Ares II is still the fastest single slot PCIE card in the world.

And there is no getting away from that fact.

Common knowledge isn't fact lol. The 7990 might have a ridiculous version like this with full fat overclocked 7970's, and will blow this old piece of junk to, erm, Mars :p

According to the spec sheets released it contains a pair of 7970 GPUs. Which, as history denotes will be down clocked to bring down the heat.

Yet there are people waiting for them.

The 6990 at launch suffered from horrible drivers. Still sold out.

The 6990 was too hot and made a terrible racket. Still sold out.

The 6990 broke PCIE spec completely, consuming an enormous amount of power in the process. Still sold out.

So you can say what you like, because at the end of the day it will come down to right and wrong. Me = right, given I can see the world from many perspectives. You = wrong.

Standing in Best Buy as Alienware's rep and talking the crap you are would have gotten me fired. It certainly wouldn't have seen me smash sales records each month.

"Sorry mate those Killer NIC cards are complete crap and will offer you about 2 FPS more than you would get with a standard $8 network card.. Yeah, go on, naff off and don't bother buying it as it sucks".

There's not a member here who wouldn't buy that card if they could wipe their buttocks with twenty pound notes.

This is the statement people are disagree with. Not whether its one card, not whether SOME people will buy. In fact that statement is false because we're on a forum where people know what is best, and the MARS isn't it.

If you know what's best then you should be able to understand that it's the fastest single PCIE slot using GPU in the world.

That fact alone is enough to make people's gineys tingle.

Just the fact that they can sit there and rub themself all over whilst saying "I have the world's fastest single slot graphics card mmmmmm".

One thing PC owners are, for a very well known fact, is egotistical. Otherwise there would be no need for otherwise pointless multiple GPU set ups. Motherboards would not come with Crossfire and SLI support, and 3Dmark Vantage and 11 would not be used to judge how much money you have.

Because that's just it, isn't it? Like many others the PC enthusiast (when compared to other enthusiasts) are just a pee the highest bunch right? skill doesn't come into it, because any muppet can build a PC and move a slider in Afterburner. So it all comes down to money, ego and bragging rights.

I'm sure in some situations the 1.5GB VRAM will not be enough, and other cards like the 7970 may out perform it?

Perhaps when it came out I may have got it, had I more money than sense. But now, and off eBay, I'd never buy it.

I'm not denying most of what people are saying about it. Me? pah ! no chance. I can think of a million things I would do with £1300. A new bathroom for a start !

Computer parts, from my own experience are the biggest waste of money. I must spend about a tenth of my yearly "spare waste-able" money on computer junk that's pretty much worth bugger all by the end of the year. I upgrade my GPU yearly when I really don't need to and constantly faff around inside my PC making it better.

It's a labour of love. A stupid, money wasting pit one. I'm not bringing any of that into question as it is what it is. I too have an Epeen and I too like to stroke on it. It's very satisfying.

However, I just know how this big old world works. And I know that when you market something such as the Mars II it will sell like hot cakes because you are appealing to the top of the pile of money wasters lol.

To me my PC is my hobby. Pretty much my only one, though the embers of stupidly over priced audiophile gear burn away inside me. This year I hope to build something that will rival (and put to shame) the Bose Wave Radio. And it won't be cheap to build.

But yes, my PC demands most of my time. Talking to friends, gaming, etc. That's the only excuse I can think of for spending so much money on it, because I spend so much time on it. I could save all my money into a big minty green pile, but there's no point. Life is short, it's there to be enjoyed and I don't have any plans of being the richest man in the graveyard.

If you are planning to use two MARS II for Quad SLI , Rampage III Extreme or Rampage III Black Edition is required. This is recommended for the best performance via dual x16 PCIE and best cooling operation.

LMAO...I took that from the bottom of the listing....Seriously 2 of these? Thats just nuts :D

Tom @ OC3D did it. They sent him two to play with IIRC. I know they sent him two Ares too, but those things just did not work together.

Haha they're one of the very few things that he gets sent that he has to send back after :D
