I've been wanting to cool my card for ages and almost acquired a waterblock for it however i'm contemplating selling my GTX 570 for a 580 with a prefitting block on it.

I could sell my 570 for £210 roughly then fork out the rest, but i don't know... because keplar is so close now.

What would you do?

No. The prefitted carry a hefty premium and this close to Keplar the gains from 70>80 will be negligible unless you feel your games are JUST not upto scratch

just hold on for now, Kepler is around the corner, you might as well weigh up you options before dropping money on a Hydro copper card.

But yes, they are damn sexy, so just hold off the temptation now. Your 570 should be capable of handling games that are available right now sufficiently until Kepler comes out.

I know my 480 is handling everything I throw at it very well, I too, am waiting to see what Kepler brings.

1 or 2 of my Koolance blocked 3Gb 580's might just be up for sale if i decide to go with Kepler.

Round the corner is stretching it isn't it? Mid range parts are "rumoured" to be due mid to late April with high end parts not even rumoured yet but guesses are putting it nearer Q4

Anyone paying a premium for the watercooled cards that EVGA make are idiots!

With EVGA you can keep your warranty by taking the stock cooler off theircards

Then again, some rumours say that they are supposed to match the 7970. I don't hold too much faith in them though. Most people seem to be saying that there's an announcement coming soon from nvidia, but then again, others are saying kepler is a flop which is why nv aren't releasing.

TBH, it's 50/50 so if you can wait, then i'd wait. if not, then get a

Hang on, the 3GB EVGA non-watercooled card is £480, the Hydro Copper 2 is only £100 more plus it comes with a backplate.

So a DIY version of it would be:

EVGA GeForce GTX 580 3072MB £480
EK FC580 GTX+ Full Cover Waterblock £80
EK backplate £20
Total £580

Plus you don't risk making a mess of it all, sounds like a good buy to me *IF* you are hooked on buying EVGA. Obviously if you set your sights a bit lower you could save £70 or so on a "lesser" brand 3GB GTX580 :)

RE the vfm thats a given.

But what I was saying is that its no different buying the Hydro Copper 2 than buying the non watercooled card and watercooling it yourself, and the resale value on a card that you have done yourself is probably lower than a factory fitted waterblock surely.

So a DIY version of it would be:

EVGA GeForce GTX 580 3072MB £480 found for £450 easily
EK FC580 GTX+ Full Cover Waterblock £80
EK backplate £20
Total £580

By my calculation you still save £30

And one advantage is that you can customise which block you want.

not when you can sell to anyone with the air cooler on its not

Hmmm i've had a good read with what you guys have said and you all make good valid points. No one is wrong is here, but i think i'll hold out for the time being and see if keplars any good. I really hope it isn't Q4 period though in which case i may just sell now and go for a higher 580 while my 570 is still worth something.

So lose less money now on your 570 only to lose more down the line on a 580

Makes perfect sense to me :p
