Hey all,

I've just recently upgraded my PC and I'm really stuck on which graphics card to get.

New Rig:

Intel Core i5 2500k @ 4.8GHz
8GB Corsair DDR3 1600MHz
3x Dell 24" ST2410 Monitor @ 1920x1080 (2 x DVI | 1 x Sapphire ActiveDP Adapter > DVI)

Right now I have a Powercolor HD5870 PCS++ which is factory OC'd at 950/1200 which will be for sale if anyone is interested?

I'm mostly playing Battlefield 3, I originally wanted to play it over the 3 monitors using Eyefinity but my card isn't up to the challenge even on low settings with a less than 30 FPS average.

So I'm forced to play using one monitor with the Medium preset as that gives me a constant 60 FPS even during lots of action (I can play with the High preset but my FPS will drop when lots of action is happening).

I'm thinking this below but I'm not sure.

My budget is around £300.

MSI HD 6970 2048MB Twin Frozr III GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card with FREE Deus Ex PC Game [R6970-2PM2D2GD5] - From the comments this looks like the non-factory OC Lightning.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Wait on the 7950 to reach the magic number or, the 1.5gb card.

Not only that but the 7850 and 7870 are out in about two weeks. Buying any card now other than a 7950 or 7970 at the high end is crazy.

Agree with the above, there isnt a good £300 card until the 7950 comes down in price or the 78** cards due in March maybe fill the gap.

I would really suggest the 7950 as well.

I've currently only got one 6950, but a couple of times i've had a second card for a week or two. BF3, Eyefinity 3 screens (2x 20 1x 23 in middle) in CF gives around 60 on med settings. Felt much smoother but did drop below during lots of action on large maps.

So i wouldnt suggest a single 6970 as a big upgrade for ever using 3 screens. Spending that much on a card now, i'd want to find more so i could push it to a 7950/70.

Worth adding, my single card is unlocked and overclocked to above 6970 specs, but when i've had the second cards i'd had to drop back down to closer to stock settings.

Could wait a long time for 7950 to drop in price..many high end last gen cards have remained constant or increased in price.

Also, aren't 78xx cards said to be worst than 69xx?

I agree, I think either you buy 7950 now at just over £300 or you wait for Kepler. Until Kepler I don't see AMD dropping the prices of 7xxx cards.

Thanks for the advice guys, not sure on what I'm going to be doing just yet.. 7950 or wait for Kepler (what sort of prices are these to be expected to retail at?).

Assuming 670 beats 7950 and 680 beats 7970 then I expect them to cost £350-£400 and £450-£500 at launch

And I expect AMD to then drop 7950/7970 to £300/£400

I picked up a sapphire 7950 oc for 350 quid yesterday and used a coupon and saved £25* off that, very odd pricing going around with these cards im seeing some be offered for sale at around £500

* had to spend £400 to qualify but it made no odds as I was buying a full set of componets
