Hi guys a friend of mine asked me to build her a new PC as her old one is giving some problems and she has sent it off twice to be fixed but keeps giving her hassle.

It will be mostly used for internet, watching videos, storage and it will most definately not be used for gaming so not that worried about a graphics card.

This is what i had in mind,

Xenon AMD Bulldozer FX-4 Quad Core 4100 3.60GHz Bundle - Quad Core

Cooler Master Elite 311 Midi Tower

OcUK Swift 650W V2 Silent Power Supply

Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA

Asus GeForce 210 SILENT 512MB

OcUK E2250SWDA 22" Widescreen LED Monitor

OcUK 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black)

Any ideas on saving some more money would be great and i would still like it to be fast for her.

Cheers

That looks good but as the monitor goes would i need a monitor with analogue connection if i didnt have a graphics card installed?

Id probably put in 1TB as she has a lot of photos and videos.

The Motherboard has onboard GPU connections which is DVI & VGA, The monitor has these connection as well.

Also, does her old PC have a sata HDD? Reusing one would be a good idea, as prices are sky high at the moment.

I'm not sure as she only asked me to look into building her one but ill have look when i take it apart. I think its a atleast 4 years old so would it have one than??

Does she have a HDTV in the lounge?

Maybe we could look to spec a HTPC using the HDTV, saving her having to buy a monitor. You could add a bluray drive and a large storage drive so she could keep her movie collection on the HTPC rather than faff around with disks.

Hi mate,

No she doesnt like she would be in her late 60's so all that technology wouldnt interest her:). Its a really basic build that see wants ya know

I think what RJC specced is good, its hard to spend all the money when you are looking for a simpler PC without a GFX card, keep the £120 in your bank:cool:

Would a WD Caviar Green HDD be a good idea? Quiet, and slightly cheaper, with bigger storage! Just an idea, they seem to be rated well for storage drives ;)

Decided to go down the Intel route:)
Another quick question, will this setup support windows 7 64bit and I was going to add a NVIDIA 210 the £24.99 one.
Is it worth it or will onboard graphics be ok??

You could drop down to an 1155 pentium or Celeron (dual core). Rather than an i3. What sort of videos is she going to be watching? And if your going for a discrete graphics card I always go for amd something like a 5450.
