I dont know if i should get a ATI 6850 OC 1gb(£89.99) or a nvidia 460 OC 1GB(£89),......the 6850 is from overclockers so the postage would cost more. What one should i get?

Im always paranoid if i buy something from anywhere other than overclockers but i cant refuse the chance to own a 460 GTX 1GB for £91.50 in total lol. I just hope it works on my motherboard....

Off topic but are you running your RAM @ 1.65V?

If you are try lowering it a touch.

Even if you only get it down to 1.60V the advice from OcUK is that's safer than 1.65V.

- Recommended memory voltage is 1.50v, so make sure to run your memory at 1.50v, higher than 1.60v could limit lifespan of the CPU

Nah i run it at 1.575v but its rated for 1.65v,the only time i ran it at 1.65v was for troubleshoooting but i've found its stable at 1.56v,i've not tried anything lower than this yet.

Excellent.

I was just slighly concerned when I saw 1.65V in your sig.

Thanks for looking out for me! Im going to set them to 1.55v,i read elsewhere that you can get away with lower sometimes so when i have the time i will try and see what the lowest stable voltage is.

You're welcome.

Quite often that RAM will work at ~1.50-1.55V but not always.

The 1.575V you're using at the moment is perfectly fine but if you can get the RAM running at a sligthly lower voltage then great.

There's no need to lose any sleep over it though if you can't get much lower.

Well i just bought the "Inno3D 460GTX 1GB O.C" for £91.50 in total, does anyone know if this is a good brand? It's apparently brand new,was this a good deal? I would like to be able to overclock it a little if possable and dont really know much about them so somebody help plz lol :)

That's a good price for a new 460 for sure :)

I overclocked mine to 850Mhz no trouble, just dragging a slider!

MSI afterburner is the program most people seem to use for GPU overclocking!

Yeah, the two sticking points are PHysX which AMD lacks and OC capabilities for which 460 is known (dont know about AMD again). Oh, and I would prefer to get ASUS Direct CU over Inno3d- the former is quiet even OCed.

Yeah i would prefer the ASUS Direct CU heatsink too but i can only afford the Inno3D version.

I would go for the 6850 the Asus ones are great cards they run really cool and I have my 2 at 975/1200 on stock volts :O don't need to push them any higher yet.

Well im kinda annoyed,i ended up finding a 470 GTX for £75 this morning and was kicking myself for buying the 460 GTX but eventualy i got over it but get this......the dude selling the 460 GTX emails me and tells me he "tested" the card and it doesnt work and he gave me a refund! So im like cool ,maybe i can get that 470GTX for cheaper!? Well i had no such luck,it was already sold this morning so i missed out on this deal because of this dudes stupid card that wasn't even really new even though he advertised it as such lol.

I ended up finding another 460 GTX 1GB for a fiver cheaper and this time it actualy is brand new and unopened so i'll keep my fingers crossed that it works on my schizophrenic motherboard.:p
