Delivery drivers trying the front door, acceptable?

My local delivery companies I get the same delivery guys/guyettes over n over again so they know that with my house and neighbours he/she can politly leave a parcel opening the door. It's a great feeling knowing this.

3 mins is a long time to be waiting as they may have a lot to deliver that day so if your not ready they just card you n leave.

I don't understand why everyone is picking on a little detail? If it puts you at ease it was less than a minute. Get up from my pc, run down the stairs, get the keys, open the door. So let me guestimate a more "accurate" figure, 30seconds.

Ok with that out the way to the real issue.

The general opinion seems to be that it is ok to let a stranger open your door without your permission.

Edit:

Sorry guys I realise this whole situation is now my fault, I should have got my stop watch out and started timing the moment I heard the door bell and then decided if it was okay for the guy to open my door. I realise the error of my ways.

Because you said 3 minutes, an extremely unreasonable time for a postie to wait at the door for you.

OP overtime they don't become strangers, for crying out loud we make our window cleaner cups of tea n give presents at christmas.

Read op, it was a courier (interlink express). I know my postman but in my eyes it still wouldn't be ok for him to open my door without my permission.

You expect someone to hang around for 3 minutes?

Either you have a physical disability which prevents you getting there quicker, or you are one annoying SOB!!

I agree that the driver should not open your front door though, that's not right.

Going to edit my op as obviously not everyone is going to read the whole thread, the ones that do will realise why I edited it.

In before: "My TV has been stolen, is it acceptable for buglers to open my unlocked door?"

Secure your house first before complaining about the actions of others.

I like peeking out of the curtains until the delivery driver / postie is just about to leave and has written the card, then opening the door just as they turn round to go.

Don't leave your front door open. The timing issue is irrelevant. You either get to your front door in time or you receive a card through the door :)

Sigh, don't know why I bothered posting in GD land in the middle of the day. The least likely time to get a reasonable response.

Man opens an unlocked door!

QUICK! TO THE INTERNET!

I'm astonished you haven't heard of a lock. They were invented for this very reason.
