Delivery drivers trying the front door, acceptable?

If my delivery man opened my door and left the package I would be over the moon, rather than moan at him. What a nice guy, he could've left a card and buggered off.

Instead he was saving both your time and his, he was prob opening the door to give you a shout incase you never heard the door being knocked.

Thankfully he was an honest man, if you don't want your house door opened then lock it.

I don't understand why everyone is picking on a little detail? If it puts you at ease it was less than a minute. Get up from my pc, run down the stairs, get the keys, open the door. So let me guestimate a more "accurate" figure, 30seconds.

Because it's quite a significant little detail  Anyway, you should never let them wait for 3 minutes, they could get a Mac 10 by then!

I love these threads.

Op posts something they thing is completely unacceptable.
Various sensible replies explaining reasons why it may have happened.
Op throws a hissy fit because not everyone agrees with them

I think it's perfectly acceptable, so long as they never enter the house. Especially iff the post office is a fair distance away.
When I had a paper round years ago, people would often want me to open the door so as not to bend the paper, some would even leave the door ajar.

Our postie goes round the back gate and sticks parcels in our recycle bin, which is awesome. My wife gets nervous about it when I'm out of the house but I told her to keep the curtains closed if she's worried (as in fabric curtains).

I'm not throwing a hissy fit, perhaps I estimated the timing wrong which everyone jumped on. My fault I guess, I should have thought out my response more instead of typing immediately after the incident when I was frustrated. It really wasn't that long, it was quite possibly 30 seconds.
As various people have pointed out it is apparently acceptable. I personally think it isn't and would rather they try leaving it at the neighbour or taking it back to depot rather than trying to open my front door.

Some agree, some don't that's life.

You complained because he was playing his music, in his van? Come on, get a grip.

Yes he was playing music at a reasonable level. No it was loud enough the whole street heard it and it woke my father. Do you honestly think he was "just" playing music?

Guys calm down.

It obviously took him 3 minutes as he had to aquire a mac10 prior to investigating who had rung his doorbell and tried to gain entry to his house.
