**NVIDIA GTX 480 IS BACK - TRULY INCREDIBLE PRE-ORDER DEAL!**

Not really, you could wait for 78** series to compare, cooler running with much less power draw and similar/faster at the same price point.

Wait until the 15th and see if there is any news on the 78's.

Yeah that's not a terrible idea. Can't see either of them costing £185 mind, but hopefully wouldn't be that much more.

I just don't see a 7850 (which would be the more affordable and closer to the performance) costing £185.

Not after the £130 7770.

between 6950/6970 performance

Radeon 6970s and GeForce 480/570s perform in the same range, depending on the overclock and a game the results may differ a little (GTX 570 might be limited by lower VRAM, GTX 480 is clocked lower than the 570 and Radeon cards don't perform as well in some games).

Worth upgrading from a 5870?

Yes!, i went from a 5870 to a 480 and there is a big improvement, even more when you OC a 480 to 850mhz on the core, you will get 580 speeds then.

The first thing i noticed was better minimum frames rates

Most 480s OC to 850mhz with no problems

Ignore all the haters, they are still brilliant cards, yes they run hot and are a bit noisy.

If you have a decent case with decent airflow, the 480 is a great choice, even more so getting a EVGA at that price.

Currently a GTX280 owner (not overclocked) and quite tempted by this.
Has anyone had experience coming from a 280 and can shed some light on how much of a noise increase we're talking about?

This just blew my mind for £185 you dont even need to wait for the Radeon 7870 which will probably cost £220 and offer same or less performance.

I think I have found the GPU that will go into my new rig that I have planned for april.

GIBBO just to make sure I have until the 16th to order right? cos 1000% I want one of these.

I'm not a hater, just being practical and maybe saving a fellow member from throwing cash away on what's little more than a sidegrade.

I went from 5870 to 6950>70, it has better mins/avg and slightly higher fps and oc's to 1GHz, which gets it into the same 580 territory, it's much the sameness to a 480.

If not for the want of CrossFire, I would have likely stuck with the 5870 as it was a great card too, although I reckon with BF3, the 480 will give better performance.

Since the pre-order price is likely to stay the same until the 15th, the wise man would not put an order in until then in case something better is in sight.

On a side note, since they are not in production any more, are these 480's brand new shiny items at all, or are they rebuilds?

Worth upgrading from a 5870?

No, I upgraded to the best 480 you can get from a 5870 and in hindsight even though it only cost me £60 to change it wasn't worth it. Always nice to play with a new toy though :)

Also bare in mind a stock 480 is a lot louder than a stock 5870 (43 db vs 50db, each 10db being a perceived doubling of volume)

The Zalman VF3000 works well on GTX480's.

That is what I have on mine awesome piece of kit! Problem is that if I bought another 480 then I would want the Zalman on it and I don't think I have room for that or the cash for that matter, missus would kill me trying to spend over £200 again on graphics.

How big a jump up would this be from an amd hd 4870 x2 please ?

My wifes pc is an amd phenom 955 be it was clocked at 4ghz but ive tuned it down to 3,6 and its running the 4870 x2 but in busy places on bf3 it will drop to anywhere from 6 - 1 fps even on the lowest settings , i am going to get her another gfx card for the pc but as its not a high spec pc anyway i don't want to spend too much !

Thanks guys.

I went from a 4870X2 to a non reference gtx480 and it was a great upgrade, however I can't speak for BF3 as I don't have it.

Start talking to her about handbags.

Choices choices

I have a new Dell 24" 1920x1200 monitor arriving tomorrow
I have a crunching rig that sits in the corner crunching seti - it had 2 x 470 and 1 x 480 in it
I nicked a 470 from it to power my new rig, with the option of taking another for SLI

Now this offer has me thinking I could put the 470 back and take the 480, buy another 480 from this offer and go 480 SLI

So for a gfx setup that will last me a couple of years for gaming at 1920 x 1200 will these do, or will I be better off waiting for Kepler?
