the cheapest way to get wifi in the house. I got virgin Broadband, piped straight in to the desktop, however we recently aquired a laptop+notebook and also when people come over they want to check their facebook etc :/

reason why it is the cheapest way im looking at is because i prefer the pc but to keep the pc i said i will look in to it

Whats the cheapest router/gateway etc that will allow me to do so?

Many thanks

This would be the cheapest option here on OcUK.

A router/wireless access point with 4 ports for wired devices such as your PC.

You'd pipe your broadband into the switch instead of your PC and then run another Cat5e cable into your PC. The wireless N part of the switch would allow your wireless devices to share the internet connection.

More expensive routers would give you Gigabit ports (useful if you have fast cable) and dual mode N, or MIMO antenna for improved speed of wireless connection.

Ring virgin and ask for a hub/superhub? They will most liekly just give you one as by the sounds of it you are a long standing customer on an old installation as new customers get hubs included?

Previously before I had the superhub I just rang them and said "I NOTICE NEW CUSTOMERS GET A FREE WIFI ROUTER, CAN I HAVE ONE PLEASE AS A LONG STANDING CUSTOMER"? Arrived two days later for free.

Cheapest? See if any family members have swapped ISP providers, and still have a router/modem with wifi on it left over.

2nd hand device....

Alternatively.. the TP-Link does is very economic :-)
