Hey fellas,

This thread is a bit of a longshot. I'm trying to find some advice from anyone who may have been an international student at an American college. I've been dreaming about going to USC for years now but need to figure out how i'd actually finance this. Average costs are usually $55,000. Does anyone know of any financial aids offered to international students over there?

Any other information you think might be useful would be great too.

Cheers.

Don't do it, you have high quality courses here for nothing compared to that. First question is why you think that price is worth it because everyone here would agree it isn't worth it.

Sorry, need to clairfy. I work in film, USC is -the- holy grail of film schools.

I've already found the edupass link but thanks, there's a lot of sites like that holding very indefinitive information.

Pretty much every uni here will cost more than $55k so it's not that shocking, even the bad ones.

No I don't believe you. $55k dollar =~ £34654 according to Google's current exhange rate. Going off £9000*5 for a masters degree or whatever that's £45000. Even with 4*£9000 that's still £36k. Higher than USA. Lol.

Okay maybe I do believe you. :(

That is $55k per a year, not total.
That is the cost of good education, so it makes me laugh when people complained at the 9k gbp per year in England.

Although to finance a student loan in America you will be paying it back at 7% interest if you're lucky, whereas in the UK it is a lot more reasonable.

Try and find a uni here which has exchange links with USC.

If possible this is a great option.

I studied in the US for my second year (doing 1st and 3rd in the UK) and it was a fantastic experience. The best thing was though how affordable it worked out at.

International fees in the US unless you're on a scholarship are massive! Add on all the extra fees of life (ie. medical insurance) and you might want to be a millionaire to achieve that feat.

It's only 3 years for a Bachelors degree in England.

USC is not the be all and end all when getting into the movie business.

The $55k is total cost, including board and accomodation.

USC is not the be all and end all when getting into the movie business.

I didn't say it was. I already work in film - but there is none that can match USC's standard of equipment and the tuition is often given by guests or past alumni.

Is there a particular area of film making you're interested in?

I could rhyme off a list of directors and artists/designers that didn't go to USC or Art Centre and were still talented enough to land the biggest and best roles. It's about being talented and getting noticed.

Costs probably amount to around about £10,000 per year. I see that as fairly acceptable. The most expensive British universities would be about £9,000, and none of which can match USC film.

Ah, so it is only for one year?

You could try living off campus and save a bit, but we're still talking about $50k. Have you thought about living costs as well? CA can be expensive.

Yeah, CA can be expensive but that 55k includes meal plans. Technically you could get through it I suppose, but it wouldn't be that much more.

Although I currently work in London, saving up about £40,000 is probably a bit much! :P
