do graphics cards come with a 3 yr warranty?

Bought a system from beep beep with a gtx 480

the card has become defective after 1 year 5 months so need a new card.

have i got any redress with the manufacturer of that card?

i thought most come with a 3yr warranty as standard

my gtx 480 failing after only 17 months is a bit harsh to take if its a 'tough ****' policy

any opinions welcome

Depends upon the manufacturer. Some offer 3 years, some 2, 1 etc. Some warranties aren't worth the paper they are printed on when it comes to the crunch :( Some more details would be beneficial, but as an OEM system I think the first port of call is with the retailer

Two other points, to make your stay on the forum as pleasant and long lived as possible

No competitor mentioning
Fully star out swears

the retailer says its out of warranty but i still believe most top end cards come with a 3 year warranty so who knows

i guess its ring up time to try and save myself a few quid
 
As you can see from the above link they all seem to come with at least a 2 year warranty, so you should hopefully be OK.

Out of interest which make of card was it?

I could be wrong, but I can't recall seeing a warranty shorter then 2 years for a new GPU.

Under EU consumer regulations anyone who wants to trade any goods within the EU must supply a minimum of 2 years warranty. They do because they treat the law as the bear minimum and they have to do it not because they love you.
 
is there any way i can tell the manufacturer from the card

just says nvidia on it



no noticeable logos

has loads of serial numbers etc

i was supposed to have been sold a major brand

the casing is gone since it was watercooled so attached to a heat sink

says made in china
 
I am not 100% on this but I believe "by law" you will have a 2 year warranty, regardless if they say "one years warranty"

Somebody maybe will give the link to back this up but I have been in meetings all day and cba.

Unfortunately it's all a bit irrelevant then.

With most manufacturers you've invalidated any warranty by removing the cooler.

And if you haven't got the cooler you can't even put it back and act all innocent.

There are a few issues with manufacturer's warranty for VGA cards. Your card is EVGA.
First sometimes you need to register within 30 days of receipt. 2nd we may buy stock from UK or US. If it's from the US then EVGA Europe won't touch it.
Last but not least is the fact it's Watercooled. EVGA won't replace it if they know it has been watercooled. Obviously we take the risk in the first year that It won't develop a fault. If you can get them to take it back we may have a fan to send you to get it replaced. There are just a lot of issues there that makes me think you won't get it replaced of EVGA.

Contact EVGA:

This is not true. By law, we honor the warranty of a product in Europe 2 years from the original purchase date with a copy of the original sales receipt. Product imported to Europe does not receive any warranty extensions such as 5 or 10 years. This is in contrast to North America where the warranty is only valid to the original owner and the product loses all warranty as soon as it is re-sold. The card in question was indeed sold in Europe but only direct from the EVGA EU website.

From the EVGA warranty terms:

The product must be returned to EVGA in the original factory configuration and condition. All aftermarket modification must be reversed before sending in the product for replacement.

As long as you can put an acceptable original cooler back you should be OK.

EVGA may not be happy though if you sent the card back with, say, an Asus branded cooler.
