and if so, do you act on it?

I have been working at the same place now for just over 3 years, and well, I do a lot of work, albeit it easy work, and get the lowest pay in the company, although I do more work than 90% of them, and get treated like dirt.
I also don't get on with the 1 person that works in my branch, to the extent I look forward to his holidays and dread the day he returns.
I have never really liked my career path, but it was easy, so I took it, and now kind of feel like im wasting my life away.
should I look at a new career, or with the state of the current jobs available, should I just stick it out and keep my head down?

I only told my boss on Wednesday, so still here for a while. I'm off travelling, so no job for a while.

ah you edited whilst I was replying to your OP lol

im not in a financial position to be out of work, this is my main dilemma I suppose, I need to just go from one job to another. but I don't know what I want to do, and really don't know anything apart from what I do now.

Out of curiosity what do you do?

And yes, if you're that unhappy - move! There's no point in waking up every day hating what you're going to do. Have a look around and see what else you can get - get your next opportunity lined up then bail

I 'repair' computers. well basically, I sit in a room, doing virus scans and occasionally swapping out pieces of hardware or sorting out some idiots stupidity.
I have done this or similar work for the bulk of the last 10 years, with the occasional sales job in between, which I did enjoy until the pressure of targets kicked in, and im not one for pressure selling. I like to sell someone what they need/want, not whats going to meet MY targets.
there are some perks to the job, I take my laptop and browse the internet all day. but slowly I think im slipping into that rut where you just go through the motions day after day.

2 of the companies I looked at seriously, both disappeared a few month after lol and my previous place of employment closed down last year too  which is a bit of an eye opener when I need work to live, so jumping ship and then finding im out of work as the company has gone under scares me.

so you dont get much fulfillment from your job, its poor pay, the people you work with are *******s and there's no chance of promotion.

Why aren't you looking for another job, again?

You say you don't know what to do, it will get worse if you get into a rut and feel you're not capable of anything else. Better to jump ship into something else and see what else is out there, then continue where you are.

lol when you put it like that then there really doesn't seem to be a choice.
but like I said, although the is bad, its guaranteed, unless I get lucky and get a job with a large company, then I wont have the same security. I suppose this is my only real concern, which is why I was looking for advice I guess.
I really want to just say 'you no what, screw your job and your poor pay, im off' but with the high amount of unemployment, I really don't want to be on benefits, if I would even be entitled to any, and are there really any jobs out there that will be better. what I mean is, is a job a job, so switch off, get on with it, take the money and live with it.

Yeah same position, left to join the military. Boss encouraged me, and gave me time off regardless to go to interviews etc.

I was quite lucky to be fair.

sounds like a nice guy.
I must admit, I get on really with the owner of the company, and he has been good to me on the whole, just poor when it comes to pay and appreciating the amount of work I do compared to everyone else, including my manager. I do 90% of his job as well as my own, its just crazy how he is still in a job.

Yup, ~30months ago my partner and I were looking for somewhere to live in our hometown. We both had mediocre jobs. She had applied for a uni course in Sheffield and had been put on the reserve list. Didn't think it'd come to anything. Anyhoo, 2 weeks before the course started they called and offered her the place. So we both quit our jobs and by the time the course started we'd move to the otherside of the country. She's still at uni, I was able to do the final year of my degree and having done that walked into a software development job (something which would've been impossible back 'home').

Best thing we ever did. If you want to change things, just do it.
