for my birthday i'm hoping to get a steering wheel for the PC and possibly the xbox 360, however, i know very little about them.

i've looked into it and found that if i want to get a wheel that works for the PC and xbox i have three options:
1. get an incredibly expensive fanatec wheel
2. get a really rubbish official microshaft wheel that doesnt work well on the PC
3. get a good wheel for the PC and get an adapter than turns it into a terrible wheel for the xbox

also, ive seen that the logitech DFGT is a popular entry level wheel, and that the logitech G25 and G27 have noticeable deadzones in the very centre of the wheel

with that, and my general lack of knowledge of gaming wheels, i figured it best to ask you guys about them.

the wheel i'm after should definitely:
- be £100 or under (if its over £100 there better be a very good reason why your recommending it)
- have good force feedback
- not be preowned
- have three pedals
- work with the PC
- be able to be taken off/put back on a wooden desk pretty easily

its not essential, but i would really like it to:
- have some sort of a gearstick, preferably H pattern
- work with the xbox

i somehow doubt i can get force feedback in the pedals in my budget, but if i could that would be amazing

any advice would be much appreciated

*i'm not sure if this thread would be best here or in general hardware, but if a mod could move it to wherever its needed that would be much appreciated*

The CSR elite and the csr elite pedals will set you back around 650 but will work with xbox and pc. There is also the 911 gt2 from fanatec with the csr pedals for around 325. Table clam for fantec is another 50 and the shifters are 60.

Or you can get the G27 for around 200 here at OCUK which is PC only. Is over the price for 3 pedals.

Or the Logitech Driving Force GT if your willing to give up the clutch pedal.

DFGT it is then.
that was my conclusion. however, if i can find one of those mystical 50% off logitech codes ive heard about then the G27 would be bought in a heartbeat (the parents are supplying £50 towards the wheel, but i said £100 because i'm willing to pay a bit towards it myself)

also, i saw on a voucher code site that you get 20% off your next order by registering a logitech product. can anyone see anything about that?

*edit*
is there a way i can buy a pedal to use as the clutch for the DFGT?

i have the g25, and my dad has the g27, there isnt a deadzone issue on the pc :)

you can also tell where the money has gone, they are really nice products, and so are the fanatec and thrustmaster wheels too

Reaper you could get clubsport pedals.

arent they the £982735986345 ones with actuators in the brakes and clutch?

they would be beyond my budget for the entire wheel

going by the people on the CARS forum there is a deadzone, but i guess its easily worked around by devs because what ive heard over there is that its very noticeable in CARS (at least in the older builds) and a lot less so in the likes of iracing.

also, when i say deadzone, i dont literally mean dead, i mean significantly lower force feedback than there should be

*edit*
also, ive now got 20% off of stuff from the logitech website. no idea if that will be enough to counter their high prices but its worth a look :)

My thrustmaster f430 fits all your requirements, except it only has two pedals.

The reviewers at racing sim central rated it very highly, I seem to remember they said they preferred it to the DFGT but I might be getting confused with another wheel.

I walked out of the purple shirt place with it for £70, but on their website its now £90 and it says the instore price is £100.

hmm, thats a good call for the thrustmaster. is there any way i could add a gearstick of some sort to it, even if its just for PC?

also, since ive never used a wheel before, i have no idea how a 270 degree wheel would be like compared to a 900 degree wheel. can anyone give me some idea of what it feels like going from one to the other?

the wheel only £80 from several places, so i'd be happy to spend a little bit on one

*edit*
for some reason i thought the thrustmaster F430 worked on the xbox 360, but it doesnt so that puts things firmly in the DFGTs favour.

just a thought, but i know there is a (probably rubbish) pedal that you can get for guitar hero or rock band that you use as a base drum. would this work as a bodge for a clutch do you think, and how expensive would it be?

I also preferred the Thrustmaster over the DFGT which I think is overrated (really awful pedals and shifters).

no dead zones on my g27 or the 1000's of members on the iracing forums that use them...

i also have a DFGT great wheel but the pedals are naff...

thrustmaster f430

In terms of "bang for buck", the F430 is the best wheel and pedal set out there in the sub £100 bracket in my opinion.

For that price, if you want a clutch and stick, compromises will be made elsewhere.

Can be had for £80 delivered too.
