Which will prevail? Apple, Microsoft or Google?

What do you think is the future? Apple with OSX and iOS? Microsoft with Windows 8 and WP8? Google with chrome and android?

Apple are flying atm but will it last? Microsoft and Windows 8 looks very promising but are they too late? Will google manage to make the experience fluid enough to challenge apple?

I cant decide which ecosystem will prevail!

Matt

I think Google, if they put out a proper x86 OS it would be free and im sure a lot of people would jump ship purely becuase it would be free. Google can do this, but MS will always have to charge given their business model. Apple's less fragile than MS as they are mainly a hardware company so will be a shootout between the two.

google because it works and because it has become part of our vocabulary, no one says did you iOS it or whatever pineapple do

People might, but I would say that companies would still go with MS. Pretty sure corporations would rather pay and get an OS with solid support.

I want android on my phone and windows on my PC. Apple can do one for all I care.

I don't represent the whole of society unfortunately.

Google will probably be running the show if they carry on like they are in 10 years time

Why does one ecosystem have to prevail? What can't all three prevail? Why can't we have more than three ecosystems?

It's not about ecosystems, it's about corporations. We can't have just one for the whole industry, can you imagine how much power you would have if you had a monopoly over essentially all information? It wouldn't be allowed.

MS easily...

I just dont think Google have built anything near enough complete, well supported or centrally well controlled. Just seem to making the commercial mistakes linux did. Really annoyed how poorly Google are conducting themselves when it comes to Android, such a shame really...

MS might be a lumbering hulk, but their track record speaks for itself. Though Ill be more comfortable in that decision after Win 8/WP8 and how it works across hardware platforms...

Apple will remain relatively niche and still be the one that makes the best well integrated hardware/software package...

I do agree with the above thats its unlikely one will win, but Ive answered the question presented

Most likely MS but I have to say after years of ignoring apple and finally trying their devices I have built my last pc. For what I use a computer for my next computer will be a 27" mac.

I love the ideology behind linux, just not an easy sale for a business IMHO, doing far better in the last decade (and a bit longer) where people like Red Hat have moved (massively) more in supporting the OS and providing those solutions to provide that confidence...

It's happened with other industries though. * cough * * cough* Monsanto.

For personal computers, Windows, it's the established choice for the majority of home and business users. The games industry's reliance on DirectX means its unlikely to be focused on another platform for a while either.

Phones? I think it'll always be a multi-horse race. You have people that like iOS, and people that like Android. Still not so sure on WP8 yet.

Microsoft, due to them already being widely used. As for phones, Apple has marketed itself so well, that I think they've already grabbed a large chunk of the market, and will continue to hold on to it for quite some time.

All three, without a doubt. They're all too good and too big to fail.

Cross compliance with filetypes and technologies helps them all, I hope we get less of these silly lawsuits they keep taking out against each other. It harms technology for the end user.

Is it me, or is Google rather fragmented - too many good products with not enough users due to poor awareness, like Google Wave.
