Evoque arrived :)

I really like these, and I have absolutely no idea why. Oh but one thing I am sure of, 'Recession White' looks utterly **** and cliché and needs to die. That paint looks fantastic.

Don't take me so literal, it's just my opinion, like I've said loads of times before, this is a forum, by posting on here you should expect her read other peoples views on things, good or bad, you don't have to agree

That other thread was right, this place is going downhill

Have you considered the possibility that had the OP wanted to buy a defender he would have done so? Mostly people who spend 40k on a car tend to consider a number of options before deciding on one.

 again, just my opinion. Not law

My parents are considering one of these at the moment, but my mum seems to prefer the freelander 2 :s dad is trying to sway her to this though. Did you try the Freelander 2 as well or was it a case of you wanted this one?

I hope your dad wins, on looks there's no competition! I imagine visibility is easier in the freelander 2 though, the rear window looks tiny on the Evoque, something I'd be willing to live with! :)

When the OP says 'we' I assume he means its for his wife, partner, other half etc....I don't see how the evoque is any different from other SUVs. Its not a hardcore offroad machine and its never intended to be (though its pretty decent as a 4x4 in any case). ;)

And jonnycoupe, forgot you work for jag lol :D

Just don't see the point of an SUV, for anybody there is always a better alternative IMO

Looks good!

How do you like the colour? I've got a Freelander on order in that colour and I'm intrigued as to what it's really going to look like! :)

Thats because you are incapable of viewing a situation from any point of view other than your own.

I've driven a few SUV's - they are quite nice. The driving position is cool and they are particularly practical whilst having, for some, a better image than an estate (and you pretty much cannot buy an Estate in the US, many manufacturers dont even bother, there is no 3 Series Touring in the US for example).

An SUV is particularly suited to driving in the USA. Have you even driven in the USA? (I presume so otherwise it would be hilarious to tell somebody the car they have bought for driving in the USA is unsuitable). Long, straight roads, almost all dual carriageway, lots of traffic lights at grid-like intersections and frankly terrible road surfaces with the sort of potholes that make the UK roads look billiard table smooth. A chunky SUV with an automatic gearbox is ideally suited for such driving. Much more so than in the UK - especially when you consider how hard it is to find a decent Estate car there, you cant get a load of junk in the back of a saloon.

For me personally the driving position etc isn't a big enough draw for me to put up with the disadvantages over a saloon, so I don't drive an SUV. I find a saloon more comfortable, nicer to drive, faster and more economical than the equivilent SUV, etc etc. But thats my personal choice formed as a result of my personal priorities and it doesnt mean 'OMG I CANT SEE WHY ANYONE WOULD BUY SUCH A CRAP CAR'.

Your posts are made all the more bizarre by the fact you chose to drive a Peugeot 206. Unlike an SUV there are almost no credible advantages of a 206 over other similar cars - they are really very poor. Almost everything else is better yet you happily drive one whilst calling Range Rovers crap and telling everyone the Focus ST is merely lukewarm.

Odd.

Long and pointless rant

Yeah there are better cars than 206's but it was cheap and like I said, it ticked all the boxes at the time, looking back now I may have bought something else, stop dragging out your hatred for me and just accept I have a different opinion. I have driven a Range Rover Sport, and yeah its comfy but convenient? No, its like trying to park a shed on wheels.

So what would you have advised the OP to buy?

It's personal preference mate, I wouldn't buy one, doesn't mean someone else can't some people seem unable to grasp that just because one person dislikes a car, doesn't mean that no one else should buy one

If you think a detailed explanation of why people in the US buy SUV's is a 'long and pointless rant' I have to ask what sort of posts are you actually here to read?

All you seem to do is pop into threads, post a randomly controversial opinion (Which in itself is actually fine, this place would suck if everyone agreed) but then run away screaming 'OMG IM ENTITLED TO MY OPINION, OMG' whenever somebody challenges it. I mean what is the point in sharing your opinion if you are not prepared to support it?
