**NVIDIA GTX 480 IS BACK - TRULY INCREDIBLE PRE-ORDER DEAL!**

I had a second 480 in my case. It was pretty toasty in there, but on average GPU2 was about 6c hotter than GPU1 with GPU1 never going above 70c in BF3.

If you have good cooling then there should not be too much of an issue.

The amount of horror stories floating around about the 480 is crazy, when in reality there are very little real-world issues.

Hah, glad I sold my 2 for ~£200 when I did.

Anyone buying these for SLI, be warned, you could cook a full english on them.

my 480 (@810) was getting to 92C in Skyrim last night

thats with 3 80mm fans on the cooler too (SOC version)

but rock steady even at those temps - so I don't really care now

for < 2560x1440 id say it's a good deal. bf3 @ 1920x1080 is good performance if you have just one.

Successful? would you eat it then?

That's far from cooked.

i know one omelette recipe where its cooked on steam (ie about 100C), so yeah a card at close to that temp should cook edible breakfast:)

One key to cooking at such temps is not to forget to put a lid on the pan -something this guy with 480 didnt know:)

The 7850 won't touch it for performance.

No your right mate

A little overclocking and the 7850 2GB is a beast.. Has the bonus off not requiring a nuclear power plant, or extra money spent on cooling to quell potential explosions..

Oh yeah more memory aswell.. I know what I would choose anyway..

Still I guess if you really like lots of noise and heat the GTX 480 is the best option, combine that with less memory and a HUGE power draw, yeah the GTX 480 is the clear winner :/

Maybe if these 480's were £99 but at the same price as a HD 7850, the 7850 edges it imho.

Nice attempt ! but what you seem to be forgetting is that the fan in the 7850 can be equally obnoxious, given it's the same one in the 7970.

Yeah your right mate the GTX 480 is better than the HD 7850 2GB except for having less memory, requiring more power, generating more heat, being noisey...

Oh wait hang on.. The HD 7850 2GB is a much better card! :-D

Anyway each to their own I guess :)
