Why...cant the PS3 Slim play PS2 Games?

i will agree with Gameplay > Graphics within reason.

for example counter strike source has such good gameplay, it doesn't matter if it has dated graphics. but goldeneye on the n64 even though was the best game ever made for many years at it's time, the graphics are so bad now i could never play it.

You know there's something wrong with the world when Counter Strike SOURCE is on the "gameplay" side of a "gameplay vs graphics" debate.

I would love Sony forever if they released a new PS2 model with HDMI support, wireless PS3 controller support, 8gb internal flash memory, and a better, expanded menu system. Not going to happen though, the demand just ain't there :(

I know there are emulators but I don't want to go messing with that really.

It's called a 60GB PS3 :p

I don't one of those rickety old things, most of them are dead from YLOD, can't see any of them being here in 10 years time :D

Whereas something based off the low heat tried and tested slim casing/architecture would!

If there isnt the facility or technology in a PS3 to play them then how come they are popping up on the PSN Store? They havnt been recoded to play on the PS3. Surely if incorporated into the coding is some sort of emulator they could release that on the PSN as a standalone to play all PS2 games not the few pants ones on there. I would pay a tenner or 20 quid for it...

yet its one of the most played mp games on any platform even to this day.
the world must be very wrong in your eyes.

Yes it is. 1.6 is the winner, it's better than you and your family. The sooner you accept that truth the sooner you can get on with leading a real, fulfilling life.

Don't get your knickers in a twist, just a light hearted dig at the phat models.
I certainly wouldn't trust a phat model to be working in 10 years time though.

my ps1 still works (launch model), my ps2 still works (launch model again), my ps3 still works (launch model again), i see a pattern here.

my 360 on the other hand has had to be swapped at least 2-3 times, i cant remember now.

im willing to bet on it still working when the ps4 comes out, which is good enough for me.

You are quite lucky then, Sony had major failures with the lasers in PS1, think they even had lawsuits regarding it, I don't know anybody who did not have to replace the laser at some point. The YLOD on original phats is pretty much common. 360 really has nothing to do with it either :)

i did get my ps1 "chipped" and the engineer who opened it up said it was the cleanest one he had ever seen before, that he was amazed it was that clean inside.

i tend to look after my possessions really well, which i think goes a long way.

i also have multiple lens cleaners, etc, which i think help the lasers.

also i was told by another engineer you should never put your console standing upwards (regarding ps2's) because it forced the motor to use more energy working against mavity, etc making them fail quicker. so i have always kept my ps2's and ps3's flat for that reason.

I hate the fact Sony took away the backwards compatibility of PS2 games on the PS3. Worst idea ever, look at the Xbox 360, that can still play loads of the old Xbox games.

All we can do it just have the ones they re-release on Bluray (like Ico and Shadow of Col. HD) and whatever they release on the PSN, which atm, is the worst collection of titles ever, wheres all the AAA PS2 titles huh Sony?!?

It does make me wonder though, is Sony going to be stupid - yet again - and not have backwards compatibility of PSX, PS2 and PS3 games on the inevitable PS4? We can only hope. And also hope they dont incorporate this feature in the release consoles and then take it away like they did with the PS3.

In fairness, there aren't that many good Xbox games you'd want to play (apart from JSRF - which I'd kill to play on PS3).

It definitely does suck that they removed backwards compatibility, being able to play all my old games upscaled would've been great (the 60gb does upscale them right?)
