I am really hoping some one can help as i am fealing down and frustrated with the following problem i have, and i have already tried everything i can possibly think of myself and also things suggested by other uk av forums but still no luck ( first time i have ever had this type of home system so a complete beginer to this and also connecting things up) so i have just bought a onkyo tx nr609 5.1 ac reciever and jamo speakers to go with my samsung 50" plasma and samsung blu ray bdc 5900 and the big problem i have is there is no sound at all coming out of the speakers, as far as i was aware i have set up everything correctly- connected all the speakers, done the speaker test, connected tv and blue ray to the reciever, so i honestly dont know if i have changed something by mistake or need to change a setting somewhere, or do i need to completely start again, any help you can give me would be much appreciated, thanks.

I don't know too much about Onkyo AV receivers, but I think you may have to assign inputs and tell it to use HDMI for both sound and video (I'm assuming you have it connected via HDMI's), the option for this will be in the menu's somewhere under I/O assign I think. Maybe explain how your set up at the moment (whats connected to what and where) and I or someone else can come up with a couple of ideas.

The simple thing to do is start with just a stereo pair of speakers on the amp and use the internal test tones. That way you aren't relying on input assignments and other complicated stuff. The amp will make a whsssshhhh sound through the speakers as long as the volume is turned up and the speaker cables are wired correctly. After that you then add the extra speakers, testing as you go.

Make sure the speaker channels are correct... I couldn't get any sound out of an Onkyo receiver the other week and we just needed to change the channels.

I'm fairly sure there's a speaker test of some description in the settings so try that. Jano is correct too, you need to assign specific ports to each input. Make sure the correct speaker 'zone' is selected too, you should have an A icon on the front of the display. If it says B, it means it's using the other speaker outputs and if it's A and B, it tends to mean you won't be getting full 5.1 on zone A so you want it to say A only. There should be Speaker A and B buttons on the front panel to change this.

agree

1st thing is first - disconnect everything and start from the beginning.

Loads of setup videos here etc

There was also a "quick start guide" with my 609 which is colour coded to help you plug everything in correctly.

http://filedepot.onkyousa.com/Files...essionid=f030d814c6413414756d223b6d3d213e8c56

Pages 12 and 13 show the speaker setup. Thanks a lot for all your advise i will check all this out, i appreciate your and every one elses help.

16 & 17 show the inputs for blur ray/tv etc

you need to check if you get the test tones as people say. that bypasses all the input stuff.

have you tried the setup mic yet?

yes i have done that, and it worked they all made sound, its just now they dont at all? but i have had a lot of replies containing loads of stuff to check and try so hopefully i can now finally get it sorted very soon , thanks a lot.

well, if test tones all work (and come out of the right speakers) then its an input issue.

which devices are without sound? some devices (like sky & virgin) you have to tell them to output via hdmi/optical etc.

blu-ray players should all output hdmi by default but if they are ones you had before you got the AVR then you might have told them to output stereo etc.

of course it could always be an error with the AVR and the input assignments are all screwy. have you updated the machine?

agreed with above - if the test tones work with the setup then it's just about assigning the inputs to the correct HDMI/digital/optical etc.

What other inputs do you have?

Blu ray
Sky/virgin?
Console etc?

Let us know and I will try and talk you thru it as I have the 609 and it takes a bit of hunting around to find the settings.

I have only had this system for about a week and because of the problems i have had all i have connected up at present is my blu ray, so when i attemp to connect my sky plus to it, if i have have problems would you mind helping me with this as this is all new to me and very confusing with basically everything as i have only ever used an easy all in one system, thanks.

Sky boxes are a bit rubbish in that they don't do surround sound over HDMI, so you'll have to connect up both HDMI and an optical cable to the amp and again go in and do the IO thing to set it up correctly. Are there any other inputs as well as the Blu-Ray and Sky boxes?
