As topic, looking to invest in a Gaming laptop as my Dad wants a lappy all of a sudden, and I may aswell go halfies and get something nice.

Requirements:

Battery life: 3hrs+
Display resolution: 1920x1080.
GPU: best performance possible. Is GTX 560M based lappies best idea?

I was gonna get:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=LT-055-MS&groupid=959&catid=1828&subcat=

however the native resolution of the screen doesn't appeal much.

Any suggestions?

You really don't need 1080 on a screen that size and it is a total pita for everyday use. I had one on my works AutoCAD 15" Laptop and hated it. 1366 if fine for a 15" as is 1600 on a 17".

That is probably the best value gaming machine you will find esp in terms of build quality and overall package. You can always buy and external monitor @ 22" and 1080 for £80ish as well, as that then makes sense.

hmm anyone else wanna pitch in?

Ive seen a few 1280x720 screens and thought the res was reasonable, but if possible I would like a x1080 screen.

I'm amazed there aren't other potential options.

Did external GPU solutions ever take off? I remember Asus made enclosures a year or two ago, is this still done, or has this idea died a terrible death?

Great, so you spent 1K on a laptop which has a lot of unknowns around longer-term reliability and from the few threads that surface on this a painful warranty turn around.

Lot of money to spend on something without the support and backup of better brands or a shop like OcUK etc.

Well assuming he bought it from the only uk place i know of that is a clevo reseller. They have nothing but praise and even more praise for their customer service and after sales support.

That spec trounces anything you would find on this website for that price too. Hope you enjoy it man.

Er Medion is direct from Medion not who you are thinking of...

Great spec, great price.....er and lacking in quality and longevity. You can only do some much at a price before quality starts to suffer.

Interestingly a clevo system would have been in the same budget. I didn't recommend one as the OP said £800-£900 then spends £1100.

If the OP had said £1100 as a budget, there were many more options.
