This is quite an unbelievable story,

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-humber-17274848

A man who informed police when he found child abuse images on his computer has not been allowed to be alone with his daughter for four months.

Nigel Robinson from Hull said he called police after trying to download music but instead finding pornographic images on his laptop last November.

As a result social services said he "should not have unsupervised access with his own or other children".

He said he was "totally innocent". No arrests or charges have been made.

Mr Robinson, 43, recalled how on discovering the images he discussed the situation with his wife and immediately called police to report the incident.

“Start Quote

It makes you feel as though you shouldn't have reported it in the first place”

Nigel Robinson

Shortly after his call the police and East Riding social services came to Mr Robinson's house to take statements from him.

During the meeting social services requested Mr Robinson did not have unsupervised access with his child.
'No control'

A council statement said: "The council's social care team considers that, on the information it presently has about this case, it is a proportionate response to request that Mr Robinson should not have unsupervised access with his own or other children.

"The council will keep the case under review but cannot comment further as this is an on-going investigation."

The police took the laptop away for investigation and said it could be a year before it is returned, Mr Robinson said.

Humberside Police said: "We are conducting an investigation that has resulted in the confiscation of a laptop in order for the relevant enquiries to take place - standard procedure for this type of investigation.

"The laptop is sent away to be examined and, as this forms the basis for a number of different investigations, Humberside Police have no control over the amount of time it takes for the laptop to be returned."
'Very stressful'

Mr Robinson said: "It makes you feel as though you shouldn't have reported it in the first place."

He added it would have been "a lot easier" to just throw the machine in the bin.

Mr Robinson said the restrictions on seeing his daughter had come to a head after his wife had returned to work.

When his wife works late, as regularly happens, Mr Robinson's daughter goes to his mother-in-law's home.

He goes round to see his daughter and them comes home on his own.

He said the experience was "very stressful for the family".

What should have he of done then?, he discussed it with his wife and then reported it to the police, seems fair to me, now his not allowed to be alone with his daughter?, and not to mention the damage this will do to his reputation.

Imo this gives out mixed signals to the public, surely after hearing this you would never want to chance reporting CP if found on your computer?

If you was in a similar situation what would you of done?

Heard that on Jeremy Vine show yesterday.
Seems social services are applying policy without thought.
It will be interesting to see if the expected year long investigation of his hard drive leads the police to be able to make any arrests regards the person who uploaded the images.

Guess the message is stay away from pirated albums in the first place.

I miss the jezza vine show. Do they still do the alotment section?

As to the story, its going to stop other people in a similar situation reporting it tto the police. Which in turn could deprive the police of leads to pedo rings.

doofski;21As to the story said:
Certainly will make people think twice before reporting any similar material they find.

Do think the police could have dealt with the matter more tactfully, that bloke is now tagged for life, ruined his life.

As for the SS, I have first hand experience of them, & my comments about them aren't printable.

This seems daft with so many inconsistencies. If the husbands a real suspect he should have been arrested or at least forced to move out, as it seems he not then there should be no restriction on him. Also why does this rule only effect the husband, why isn't the wife also banned from being with their children.

It also makes no sense it takes a year to check a laptop. It should take then a ~day to clone the hard drive and then give the laptop back.

Social services is not very nice. I am always hearing about how they ruin functioning families and take children away from their parents against their will. Often when they go in to social services they end up getting abused as well.

Well as a rule of thumb you should never call the police, especially when you could be potentially incriminating yourself.

I would have deleted the pictures and thats it.

Having been fostered nearly 50 years ago, looking back to my experience with the SS then, they were much more sensible,& considered all the options first before bringing out the big guns.

Whereas today they caused no end of problems, as already mention by Groen.

I read this last night, what I don't get is....

Hit DEL, and dont' say anything, even if they didn't charge him for possessing child porn, they would have done him for illegally downloading music anyways.

Problem solved.

The social services have come under attack over the past few years, baby P and all that and now act irrationally to the slightest thing, which is sort of understandable. They do however need to take a step back and look at things properly, something that personally I believe they are incapable of.

Sure music....

Reminds me of that Simpsons episode

Wiggum: The Police are powerless to help you

Marge: You said the police are powerless to help

Wiggum: I said powerless to help you, not stop you

I think it is quote obvious what happened from this small section:

Mr Robinson, 43, recalled how on discovering the images he discussed the situation with his wife and immediately called police to report the incident.

Man gets busted by wife, makes up story claiming innocence. Also interesting is the inconsistent reporting in the article. Is it child abuse images or is it pornography or is it child pornography? All different things.

Has all the hall marks of a Netmums stitch up.

Seems a bit over the top if he hasnt done anything but at the same time I can see why they have done it. Lets face it the story is a bit dodgy, how many pedos would use the excuse "oh I dont know anything about that, I was downloading something else".

We would be posting in a few months how they could be so stupid to fall for the story and not put any safe guards in if they find he was downloading CP.

I had a the same thought myself but if the information in the article is correct then that would mean that she went along with a lie to the Police no?

No - she just believed him ;)

I mean a lie in terms of who found the images, the article says that 'he' discovered the images on the computer/laptop, are you saying she is covering for him because she believes he made an innocent mistake? if that's the case the statement to the Police/News is a lie and she would know that if she originally "busted him".
