Ford Fiesta ST unveiled

Even a small ecu map change would make it appear more 'sporty' than a standard 1.6 turbo Focus. Considering they want 17.5 grand for it I would want a bit more than an engine that has been taken from a regular Focus and stuck in a Fiesta.

I do agree with you about the emissions, but this is not a 1.25 Fiesta that will sell by the shipload, this is supposed to be a hot hatch that will appeal to people who want power and handling.

You haven't even driven one yet? :p

They did the same for the previous Focus ST. Don't see why Ford should add extra expense just to develop another engine for it.

This is ocuk, we've worked out the MPG and the way it drives before a single car has been handed over to the press :p

you mean the fiesta?

the fiesta ST 2.0 has a duratec shared with a mondeo
the focus ST has a volvo engine in it does it not?

Good point in that case:

A Focus RS is a proper hot hatch.

way to go back on your previous statement :p

But not my favourite kind as personally if i had the money for one i'd much rather get a slightly older evo

you can buy a focus RS for 20-27k
you can buy a sorted evoX for less than 20k

they aren't aimed at the same market.

Yeah sorry, the Fiesta ST uses the same 2l engine as the Focus and Mondeo. No point bumping up the cost to make an engine when there's one you can use.

Ooh this could tempt me from my Fiesta ST. Had it 4 years now and fancy a change despite getting it in performance Ford magazine and getting 200 bhp on the rolling road.....

I do fancy the idea of the turbo though and as a 1.6 it'll be cheaper on car tax too

I know that, but i'm on about myself. personally I think if you want a cheap fast car you get one of the lower hot hatches otherwise get a proper fast car? One that can use ALL the power

Very nice, not totally sold on the front grille, however that grille will be awesome for larger intercoolers without having to alter any of the bodywork.

178Bhp as standard is a very nice figure. 200Bhp will easily be achievable with a small tweak to the brain on the car.

Pocket rockets. I might have to see how much they want for 1 of these lol

like i said earlier, the Fiesta ST outsold "much better cars" (debatable till the end of time). This is what ford want, Loads of sales. It could have made the FiestaST Mk1 a 190bhp rocket, but they would have sold half as many cars. For a company that is really struggling why the hell would they do that?

This Mk2 Fiesta ST is roughly 180bhp per ton. Thats 11bhp MORE than my Mk1, after adding 35bhp and removing seats and spare wheel... It will be fast, and very nimble.

I think the RS is about as pure a hot hatch as it gets. Lots of speed, lots of noise, but practicality too.

It really made me cringe when TG reviewed it and rolled out the R26.R as a competitor. I mean seriously? One is a Focus with a fast engine and some Halfords bodykit bits stuck on. The other is a stripped out track-day special with a rollcage in the back and plastic windows. A great car, sure. But the R26.R really sticks two fingers up at the whole "practicality" part.

What route did you go down? Just the Mountune?

I had a custom package made up by Janspeed. 4-1 manifold, decat, new rear box, janspeed carbon fibre induction, catcam cams and GGR custom remap to push mine up to 200bhp @ the fly on rolling roads

to be fair, all they needed to do with put track rubber on the focus and it would have probably done just as well.

My route has been a long one, custom mods like Miltek manifold, Piper catback etc, then all sold off to pay for the Mountune 185 kit. LSD Diff, 300mm Mondeo brakes and Bilstien B12 kit round it off nicely.

Didn't see this until today, Ford released a video of the ST being really pushed hard on some awesome roads, looks much faster than the old car. ;)

On a serious note though...I actually think it looks like a bit of a minger from all angles, apart from the interior I think the MK6 looks 100x better.
