Fast paced FPS or Racer required for new PC!!!

Hi all.

I recently purchased a new computer (still waiting for delivery) and would like to get 1 or 2 games that show off its graphics.

I'd preferably like a fast paced shooter, and a faster paced arcade racer.

I'm thinking Crysis 2 or a new COD for the FPS?

Like I said, its primarily to showcase the GPU. (first upgrade for 4 years!!) so gameplay/depth isn't essential but it at least needs to be playable!

Any suggestions?

If you want to showcase you GPU don't get COD the graphics are awful as for races could try Dirt 3, Project C.A.R.S or Burnout Paradise (the graphics are not as good as the first two but fast game play)

For a shooter, even though the game is pretty poor BF3 looks pretty awesome imo.

Agreed, cod runs perfect on most GPU's. Battlefield looks awesome but is quite hard if you are new to fps. everyone else playing it will have about 6months advantage on you!

That's just your opinion, although the majority will disagree with you.

I wouldn't categorise BF3 as even remotely fast paced at all though..

If your just looking for eye candy though, it's perfect.

Trackmania was my first thought before opening the thread, then I saw you want to showcase your PC...well it probably won't but its quite a nice looking game.

Try Metro with 64 players, that is about as fast paced as it gets I reckon

I did state that with "imo" but compared to BF2 and 1942 it is pretty poor. But anyway moving on.

There's a massive difference between a cluster**** and good, balanced, fast paced gameplay.

Yeah BF3 is visually the best fps at the moment but again I agree that it is nowhere near as good as its predecessors when it comes to game play - especially if you play with friends as a team.

Tribes Ascend if you want fast paced FPS, otherwise go BF3.

I own the above mentioned racers (cars, shift, dirt) so anymore suggestions are welcome.

How is the single player on BF3? My internet isn't up to online games at the moment.

Imho Crysis 2 looks at least as good as BF3, but probably better. Its single player is also much more fun, as Dice have spent about 5 minutes on thinking out the single player - its a predictable boring affair.

Metro 2033 looks absolutely gorgeous maxed out. Last, but not least you could have a look at ARMA2.

Racers- there are none better looking than CARS, so if you have that, you're allright. Shift2 is second best looking and has much more content than CARS.

Be warned you need the internet even for single player and for some reason every time I load it up crashes since the last patch

You don't need the internet for single player on BF3 and single player is fine for me, no crashes.
