God & Science Proved!

You are perfectly entitled to believe in it with no proof, I and I'm sure many others have no issue with that.

What we have an issue with is that if (note the if because I'm suggesting a hypothetical situation, not one I currently believe) proof was revealed that God conclusively does not exist, you would still not change your views. It is that which is closed-minded.

He's trolling tbh.

...he has to be.

When you look at a Fly on the wall, what do you see?

I see a living organism just like us that has a different DNA make up. We are just lucky to have a DNA sequence that allows us to have bigger brains that gives way to intelligence and being self aware.

When a fly dies I think to myself, has this fly gone to heaven? Was God watching over this fly like he does with us?

I'm quite jealous of people who have faith and I would like to believe in God, it would probably make me a better person, with optimism and hope. Knowing you will probably get to see your relatives in an after life, you can just get on with your life knowing it will be alright in the end.

As they say ignorance is bliss.

Nobody is saying that "god does not conclusively exist", just that you are closed-minded - nobody is attacking you for having faith or telling you what you can or can't believe.

Just that based on what you said, you are clearly closed minded & not worth debating - because as you stated yourself - nothing would change your mind.

Question, if a "god" came down for all of us to see & it wasn't your "god" (let's say it was Zeus) - would you still believe in your god (the Christian god)?.

I agree with this...

I'm a rather depressed person, mainly because of the feeling that life itself is pointless/meaningless with the only reason to exist being the continuation of the species.

This species isn't one I want to continue, en masse :(

Ahh snap, it wouldnt suprise me that more people who suffer from depression are none believers. No doubt religion can help people get through life.

Definitely - I understand the reasoning behind where these beliefs have come from (fear, basically - some are rather good at manipulating this fear).

I have the fear without the hope that there's a "reason" for it.

I would definitely be a happier, more productive, more goal-orientated and just generally better person if I could have some form of faith.

It's been argued that being mildly depressed is the most accurate view of reality.

Without the benefits of positive bias, or the trappings of negative (which leads to serious depression).

Ignorance is bliss, so I can't blame people for holding onto fairy tales - but it's a little sad for adults to need them still.

I have answered your 'question' but you dont like my answer as you are totally against my beliefs and cannot understand my strong faith! Now, wheres the kettle?

I wanted you to agree to the bulleted statements and then answer the question.

Are you saying that you agree to all of them, and that you are taught what to believe?

Blimey you are so miffed with me aren't you? Relax, its only a discussion!! You got my answer, now sit calmly and read it. lol

People don't trust each other or politicians or anyone now days.

How can people blindly believe in a book written by man from thousands of years ago? Did people suddenly get dishonest after it was written?

Religion was/is a tool for controlling behaviour, if you can install fear into a population they will do what you want. I see religious books as a guideline for morality (albeit slightly dated but fundamental no killing no stealing etc...) the whole heaven, god etc... Is just the mechanism for making sure it is followed, if people believe that they are going to be judged upon their death for their action in life as set out by "god" then people will follow the teachings.

Beliefs in a greater being etc... Is probably just the way out brains work and a way with coping with the knowledge that we will die.

IMO of course.

I have to laugh at some of you lot.

You are so annoyed at why a christian, such as me, cannot be budged on his faith, how i can believe in god with no 'proof', how i am supposedly closed minded about it all!! lol

It just annoys the hell out you all that i can believe in it all without proof! Makes me laugh at you all trying to make how i believe seem a farse!

You guys do what you want but remember one thing, faith is hard for some and easier for others. Dont get you knickers in a twist because you cant budge me from mine! lol

You have missed the whole point of every single post aimed at you. You're not riling or annoying anyone, you're just misunderstanding every single person that has addressed you in this thread. You are close-minded, as you have made your decision and no matter what evidence is laid at your feet you won't budge. No-one is trying to change that, they're just pointing out that you are what you see in others. You are the close-minded one, they are not.

No, I'm not even slightly annoyed and reading my post back I don't know how you could think so. I just want you to answer the questions.

Are you agreeing with my statements about you, and are you saying you were taught what you believe?

What evidence? No evidence that god doesn't exists! You are close minded for not being open minded about god. Works both ways!

You have read every post i have typed. The answer has been written!

Right, off to work now.

It was a yes or no question... and you haven't answered it ;)

You seem to circumvent logic and interpret questions and information in ways that they're no intended... that's quite 'normal' for people with unshakeable beliefs.

"I don't like what's being said! I know... I'll make it mean something different"

Gilly's responses are quite calm, relaxed and inquisitive... you seem to have interpretted that in a different way too

I had a fantastically interesting debate with a Bishop over dinner once... some dinner party and I ended up getting placed directly opposite him.

Even he admitted that he questioned his own faith frequently.

There are intelligent ones out there... but I feel they're the minority :(

I watched a show called blood sweat and take aways when it was on Tv and it stuck with me about how they had to work without food for 2 days to earn about 50p each to get some rice etc.He may be intelligent but he has not realised that the church is hardly a force for good.It is a force for self preservation and control of society. And money making as well. How many of these Bishops drive Merc's and live in big houses? If they gave away about 20% of thier wages they could probably support a few familys.Hell our local priest/bishop/reverend drives a BMW and jets off to the carribean every year without fail! If was truly following jesus he would see that he could easily forfeit that carribean holiday and still easily live a life better than 60% of the worlds population.

Considering the sheer amount of questions by highly intelligent people like Stephen Hawking and Richard Dawkins with no belief in god who could blame him. What would some of the hardcore christians have to say about Hawking? A few would say that is why he is in the condition he is in.As a punishment from god for being a disbeliever.I love those kind of christians they are the best imo. They dont realise that if there was a god and he had half an ounce of decency it would be those christians going to hell not hawking.

Stephen hawking even though mangled is one of the smartest men alive. If he says there is no god then i believe him over anyone. And could someone verify that my orignal question about evolution that all animals/Humans were orignally made or designed to NOT eat meat is correct? If humans cant eat meat then currently a lot of christians are breaking gods law and would in theory be dammed like adam and eve.

That alone no one has really attempted to explain?
