Screwed up temperature readings or serious problem?

I just got myself a new system to build myself

Intel 6 core with intel board and the intel liquid cooler

Basically my cooler is spazzing out because of the one CPU temp reading which is out of line with everything else. Here's a screenshot of the Intel desktop utility:

Any help much appreciated. I'm quite concerned as I've just spent a fair wedge on this thing.

More than likely just a false reading. Try hwmonitor, coretemp, realtemp. Any of those to monitor temps and see if they read the same. I'm fairly sure the CPU would just shut down if it ever got that hot.

yeah that's my thinking. I've come to the conclusion the mobo is reading wrong or it's a broken sensor.

I just did a 1min sample watching the temp readings in the BIOS... lots of jumping about. It read these temps when it didn't say 124C:

33
-66
-123
34
-47
126
-48
23
51
-41
-68
-38
54

Pretty weird, so I set the thresholds way above 124 to stop the fan spinning up to 2600rpm and slowly deafening me. Things seem to be fine now, but I'm wary of ill effects of dodgy monitoring further down the line...

Worth getting a replacement board?

TRy reseating the cpu, check for any crap particles in and around the socket. Failing that, unless it's a serious problem then leave it. If you're worried about it, it might be worth RMAing but i don't know if you can RMA for something as little as that.

yeah worth giving that a shot, if it doesn't sort it I'll contact OCUK and see if anything can be done.
