As title, i've about had it with humanity *holds hand above head*, we, as a collective species suck. If only one country focused on what the hell they were doing; in histories case, the USA (only pushed by the cold war unfort), they took tech to the edge, and landed peeps on the moon.

If we as a planet abandoned idiotic human emotion - what could we achieve? what is the human species limit in what it can do ?

Think tank people - go !

a true utopia.

think sci-fi perfect cities etc.

infinite life expectancy, the list goes on.

but it will take a massive change in the way people think about human life and work in general. which will never happen and so we will eventually be our own demise.

but i plan on being a long time dead by then

We're altering our planet in ways never seen before, who's to say how long we'll be able to survive. Humanity has some very difficult challenges around the corner such as feeding an expanding population, economical tribulation, the end of the carbon-based econony and climate change. Overcome those without killing ourselves in the process, then maybe we can finally look towards colonising space.

the limits would be endless.... but the first thing would be we would stop destroying the planet. I'm not a 'green' person but if we were devoid of want and lust, things like massive cars and frivoloties would be unnecessary, so would cut down on fossil fuels etc?

Humanity sucks in general, Star Trek style future where everyone just decides not to be greedy would be great but just won't happen. Our entire culture is based on getting what you want as soon as possible.

If we abolished money, and helped FAIRLY build up everyone to the same level of living around the world the so called first world would essentially be put on the backburner for years while we poured resources into 3rd world countries, housing, sanitation, manufacturing, farming, etc, etc. The problem being the 1st world people are the most capitalist and greedy, hold all the power and would have to give up the most essentially to end up in a non greed based society.

Asides from making massive strides forward in technology/science in general basic living standards, some people live in £10 million mansions without even using 3/4 of the rooms while others live in box rooms with families, its mental how unfair the world is in general, sickening actually. But as said the way to fix it would involve the 1st world going on pause while we all helped the 3rd world, something no one will do.

Ideal society is essentially, everyone has a comfortable but not lavish or insane place to live, there isn't money, no one works 9-5, people with specialised skills like doctors work only in their jobs, other people work essentially part time(getting rid of all the waste) and spend more time just enjoying life.
People need to spend free time, reading, learning, essentially bettering themselves rather than wasting away behind a desk with needless work. People could put as much time as they wanted in to research or learning, and with money and greed abolished there would be no reason to make research secret or private with no patents to grab or money to be made.

Seriously if you open up ALL worldwide research and have people collaborate and give each other idea's we'd be SO far ahead of where we are now. Rather than millions of people all trying to help each other to crack cold fusion for the betterment of mankind, we've got hundreds of thousansd of small independant groups trying to crack cold fusion themselves, in an attempt to make a buttload of money.

Nuclear fusion...unlimited clean power for the whole world, that would be a good first step.

Chernobyl and Fukushima, yay!

On a more serious note, once there are 50 billion people in the world, and we run out of oil and farming space, the human species is going to end up royally screwed over, but fortunately I'll be dead by then.

A lot of people might be put off by all the green mumbo jumbo, but until we are fully dependant on renewable clean and safe energy, and reduce the ever increasing global birthdate of our species, we are doomed go fail once we overburden the ecosystem which we depend on for survival.

Hold, don't underestimate what we have achieved since the Space Age. We are living in the Information Age now and when you think about it, the internet is an amazing achievement. Each computer connected to every other computer, just the physical architecture behind that is amazing. Then we have wifi, and mobile phones connecting to the internet. I guess being taken for granted is the ultimate accolade.

sums it up pretty much perfectly. +1

I'm not aware of a more successful one.

Almost every other animal...Go watch some documentaries. (in terms of working together which is what the OP is talking about)

I believe this is appropriate, everyone should watch these.

Yes all that is amazing, but if we stopped worrying about blowing each other up i'm sure we would be a long way ahead.

that's just BS, what other species corporates with billions of it's own kind. Over many colonies. As fantastic as ants are. They're only big cities. We corporate over thousands of cities. What animal species builds stuff on the other side of the world and trades with other colonies around the globe.

Most animals are perfectly suited for their environment, but don't do well outside of that environment. Humans, however, have been able to adapt to changing environments and conditions and been able to survive virtually anywhere, expressed very basically.

The human species really is quite amazing, we have had some astounding highs with displays of compassion and generosity and technological achievements as well as some absolutely despicable lows with genocides, catastrophic wars and torture.

I think that's somewhat debatable, as a great many of our technological achievements come from striving to overcome the opposition. Evidence of this can be seen in the technological advancements made during the World Wars and also those made during the Cold War.
