modern pop lyrics what the hell

If you thought the lyrics were bad then see the video (health warning):

You couldn’t wish this on your worst enemy. :p:D

In response to that video:

It's all metaphors and imagery I'll give you that. But that's what good lyrics are supposed to be, at least in my opinion. I don't want lyrics to be a story telling what happened from A to B in simple and unambiguous terms. I want lyrics to paint images or conjure emotions, and to be something open to some kind of subjective interpretation.

That's a very subjective interpretation of what lyrics should be ;)

Another set of lyrics I'd list among the best ever written would be Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve. A lot of those make no sense either if you interpret them literally.

Having just gone out of my way to read them... They're not tremendously nonsensical, but they are quite bland.

Wow that was... just terrible :p

I don't understand how these people get so popular when so many people hate it...
She is pretty unattractive as well :p

It looks like most female pop artists these days have to strip naked before anyone buys the record. It's not about music, it's about the image. I gave up pop a long time ago :p

Those lyrics are nowhere near as offensive as some of the stuff the kaiser chiefs or Franz Ferdinand come out with. I genuinely cannot fathom the appeal, it's just nonsense.

Even the classics can have awful lyrics:
Finished with my woman
'cause she couldn't help me with my mind
People think I'm insane
because I am frowning all the time

All day long I think of things
but nothing seems to satisfy
Think I'll lose my mind
if I don't find something to pacify

Can you help me, occupy my brain?
Oh yeah
I need someone to show me
the things in life that I can't find
I can't see the things that make true happiness,
I must be blind

Make a joke and I will sigh
and you will laugh and I will cry
Happiness I cannot feel and
love to me is so unreal

And so as you hear these words
telling you now of my state
I tell you to enjoy life
I wish I could but it's too late
Those lyrics always make me wince. It's not so much how bad they are, but I always thought Ozzy was struggling to match the lyrics to the music, if you know what I mean.

I've read the lyrics and they make sense. They should make sense if you are familiar with rap. That being said its not a good rap at all and the video is terrible. If you want me to I will translate them for you.

Let me provide you with some entertainment. Did you know, and I cross my heart - factual tale coming - that Nicki Minaj lastest record was the most anticipated hip hop female artist record of 2012?
Promoted by the single "Stupid Hoe" record entitled "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded", released all 7 days ago, is a concept album product (you know, like Pink Floyds The Wall was) telling stories as Minaj's alter ego (attention!) a British gay male half orphan Roman Zolanski (you know, the way Sasha Fierce was Beyonces alter ego, or Ziggy Stardust for David Bowie). Describing Roman in New York Times T Magazine interview, Nicki Minaj put on an English accent and said: "Sometimes if it's really early in the morning, Roman gets cranky and doesn't want to get out of bed. Roman is lazy, you know, he wants to stay out all night and not wake up so I send Nicki into the world."

True story!

I would like to hear your interpretation of these lyrics.

I am not a fan of rap and am not familiar with rap lyrics but I do have an idea what this particular tune (term used loosely) is about, I think the video gives more away than the lyrics though.

I'm 20, I listen to Radiohead, Metric, Johnny Cash, The Smiths and Taylor Swift. I'm not a cool kid though.

Listened to the actual track and well... to reiterate: :/

She's apparently getting to be big stuff now, and "diss" track or not, that's just absolute nonsense.

Still, she'll make millions, "inspire" a generation and... sigh.
