If you had a car, enough fuel and X amount of time off work. How long would X be? Could you visit all states in a few months to say "I've been to every state in the USA!" and have spent enough time in each to appreciate them? Took me 2 weeks last time to drive from New York to LA stopping off a couple of times, but I fancy a more epic trip!

I would say to truly appreciate each state, you'd have to set aside a week for each plus travelling time. You'd probably be looking at just over a year if you did it like that.

Yeah, I'd say about a year too if you really want to appreciate each and every state. If you just wanted to see a couple of the main highlights in each state then you could probably do it in around half that time.

A year if you wanted to actually do it all properly. You could probably do it in a week, if you literally didn't see anything and just drove around the country.

Don't you have to return to the UK after you've been abroad for so many consecutive months?
Yep, under a standard Visa Waiver you can only stay in the country upto 90days.

Edit: It might be an option to say go into Canada, do a new waiver then head back over the border?

That's about right maybe a bit longer.
Me and my mate joe used to drive from Florida to NY twice a year and that took 24 hours each way.

From what I have heard, doing a US tour is quite boring. A friend of mine did a west coast tour and after 6-weeks just wanted to go home. Variety is the spice of life.

Yeah! Me and a few mates when we were younger talked about doing something like this. Spent a week working out an Itinerary and 2/3rds of it was driving.... and deadzones. The place is too big to see all in one go.

Citywise id probably want to just see NY and LA the rest is too American :O

Not bothering with Hawaii?

If I ever done this I would have to try and coincide it with Tornado season.

Would love to see a big tornado in real life.

Are there any storm chasing websites that show you the latest info and videos?

Depends if you're doing a city-city tour or visiting a variety of stuff, avoiding most cities.
