Any idea on cost for this?

Afternoon all,

On a rather delightful Sunday afternoon, I decided to go out for a nice drive, and on the return leg of that journey, I was along side a battered old VW camper on a roundabout, just about to come off, when all of a sudden the lady decided one lane wasn't enough for her and went into mine, hitting my car in the process.

Now she didn't even realise, and carried on, I had to go in front of her and slow her down to a stop. And even then she was clueless. Anyway, eventually got her details and went on my way

Now the photo I took at the accident is below:

This is particularly annoying as I only had the front end resprayed last year, typical. So I had a go at polishing it to tidy it up and get a true idea of the damage in terms of paint etc

After about half hour, it looked like this:

The only damage I can see in terms of paint is it has taken the lacquer(sp?) off Didn't want to polish at the very edge of the arch as was worried with the lacquer damage it might make it worse. But as you can see the dent is there but isn't as bad as I first thought.

How much roughly would that cost to get fixed? Dent and paint fixed? I'm off to BMW tomorrow anyway to have my rear brakes done, so will ask there, but also wanted to ask if you guys thought they will be able to just pop that dent out?

The lady is calling back tonight and I'm wondering if it's worth suggesting to just do cash in hand rather than go through her insurance and cost her her NCB and excess

Cheers

She wont pay an excess if its your car being fixed, so you wont be saving her anything there.

Not a particularly difficult panel to replace either so it should be under a grand I'd imagine.

Being on a contour line makes it more difficult to rectify so it is likely to be suggested that you have a new wing which obviously pushes up the cost. You could let them try to pull it out but I doubt it will ever look completely right. If you have a new wing they'll want to blend the adjacent panels as well to lose the colour.

Ah ok, fair enough

And a grand?

I was expecting a couple of hundred, as I didn't realise the panel would need replacing!! You seriously reckon it couldn't be repaired?

As Minxy says its right on a contour line. It could probably be fixed up reasonably well but its not your fault so why accept anything less than perfection?

Repairs right on a wheel arch are always a pain to try to pull out. If it was me I would want a new panel.

Cost wise, what you'd save yourself on the cost of the part in not replacing it would soon be lost in the labour time needed to try to sort that out.

I know

I'm just worried as I've read that even non fault accidents push your premiums up as they see you as a risky driver (to get yourself in a situation where you are in an accident), and with my accident last year (that was my fault) didn't want another one on my record.

But at that cost, not a whole lot of choice :)

Cheers you two

Just an update, if anyone was interested

Phoned my insurance company this morning and explained what happened, gave her details etc. But was told because it was on a roundabout, it might be tricky to prove liability unless she admits to the insurance company what she told me when we pulled over. So it might end up costing us both money :(

I'm hoping because either way it will cost her her NCB that she'll see no point in costing me money too, she seemed nice enough on the phone last night and at the scene. But we'll see :(

I don't get this mentality where people will not admit fault and end up getting a 50/50 decision it costs them exactly the same and costs you money as well it is spiteful really.

That's what I'm counting on, that it will cost her the same regardless, just depends if she wants to be spiteful like you say

To be fair most insurers specifically say you should never admit liability, and leave it up to them to sort.
