Well i have 2 weeks to go then i will be in a position to buy my new tv's. the 32" is not a problem as that is just for my son's bedroom. However my dilema is replacing my main tv at the moment i have a samsung 46" lcd.
my question is would i be foolish to buy a plasma tv?
we want 3d and fancy 50" screen we have seem the panasonic TX-P5OUT30B in currys with 2 pairs of glasses for £698, but i cannot find many reviews on the particular model.

your thoughts and suggestions please

thanks

That'll be the 50UT30, not the 5OUT30 ;)

TBH, I'd be looking at paying a bit more - that's their lowest spec 3D screen and is unlikely to have decent black filtering (which improves contrast), I'd be looking at the ST30 at least.

LED vs Plasma... well, I won't buy a large LED TV - I can see too many flaws that would irritate me in them, so I'm plasma all the way here (2 x 50" plasmas). Other people think differently though (plasma has its own inherent foibles).

this is the one deffo wrote it down right

ah found some info on it

The Panasonic TXP50UT30BB is one of the latest 3D televisions from Panasonic. The 50 inch plasma full 3D television has some fantastic features that will give anybody’s home cinema a huge boost. With its black gloss finish the Panasonic TX-P50UT30B will complement anyones surroundings being very pleasing to the eye. It is elegant and will look amazing wherever you decide to place this even when it is not on.

If you are looking for a television that is future proof, then look no further that the Panasonic TXP50 as it is full 3D ready. 3D is back and you will be please to known there is no sign of the red and green paper glasses. 3D has come a long way over recent years and demand for this technology in our homes has grown dramatically. With 2D to 3D conversion your viewing experience will be very lifelike and ensure you have a comfortable viewing experience.

The picture quality on the Panasonic TX-P50UT30 is exceptional thanks to the 600Hz Intelligent Frame Creation Pro produces images twelve times faster per second than standard televisions which are usually 50hz. As a result the pictures on screen run smoother without flickering, and blur that often occurs from fast moving images is vastly reduced, producing a far sharper image, perfect for watching sports and you will notice the difference.

Combine this together with a full 1080p panel and Deep Black Filter Pro technologies makes your viewing a very pleasurable experience. Contrast on the plasma has now been improved by Panasonic as Enhancements to the panel and filter help reproduce images with smooth, natural gradation and deep, rich blacks – even when viewed in bright surroundings. In movies, true, deep blacks faithfully convey the intent of the filmmaker, adding power and realism to the viewing experience.

Another brilliant feature of the Panasonic TX-P50UT30 is the Freeview HD built in up until now the high definition signals have only be available via a satellite dish or fibre optic cable but now Freeview-HD offers a far simpler connection if Freeview HD is available in your area as it is contract and subscription free so a great alternative to paying for Sky or Virgin Media and has channels that should cater for most peoples tastes. All you need to do once you have found out it is available in your area is all you need to do is plug the 42 Inch plasma television in to an external aerial connection, tune in and start enjoying the benefits of amazing high definition.

The Panasonic TX-P50UT30 has VIERA Connect which allows users to enjoy video and music, sports, games, and a variety of other content in addition to the standard movies and TV programmes on a high-quality large-screen TV through the simple operation of a remote control. The TXP50 is Wi-fi ready as well.

4 HDMI inputs on the Panasonic TXP50UT30B will allow you to connect any of the latest HD sources e.g. Blu-ray Player, HDD, or your games console catering for all of your needs at once. 2 USB inputs are also present for connecting other sources such as your digital camera or mp3 player.

So as you can see this is a unit from Panasonic that is just crammed full of features and will keep you happy for many years to come.

I'm in the same situation as you, looking to spend around £700 on a new set, I'll probably be going for the ST30 from Richers, £699.95 including 2 sets of glasses.

The ST is a higher range set than the UT, it has a a contrast ratio of 5,000,000:1 compared to the UT's 2,000,000:1. It has an extra HMDI and USB port on the back as well.

The ST30 uses the same panel that the GT30 uses which is another step higher in the range again (the ST only lacks the THX sound, built in wireless, freesat and USB recording).

The only set back for me is that it's not the most beautiful of TV's to look at, especially compared to my old sleek samsung.

is the PANASONIC TX-P50ST31B the same as a 30b?

also looking at putting a few more quid up and getting the PANASONIC TX-P50G30B

would that be a better buy?

got 10 days left to make a decision

You said putting more money into it and getting the G30, but the G30 is a lower end TV than the ST, it doesn't have 3d (not that that's a bad thing if you don't want/need it) and doesn't have the neoplasma screen.

Do you mean the GT30 instead? This would be more expensive than the ST30 as it has the extras I listed above.

All these screens are going to be increasingly more difficult to get hold over the next few weeks as the new 2012 models will be rolling out.

For me, in the end I decided that I didn't want the hassle of buying the Panasonic and getting the green blob problem. Getting a replacement shouldn't be an issue but I'd rather just buy something else and not have to worry about it.

I went for the Samsung PS-51D6900 in the end, can be had from the rain-forest place for £799, ok it's an extra £100 but that's the price I'm willing to pay to have peace of mind that it's not defective. I don't think the rain-forest deal comes with 3d specs though (I didn't buy it from there I bought it from a local shop and got 6 pairs of glasses as part of the package).

It's also had some decent reviews as well and I think it looks better aesthetically, I'm really pleased with the deal I got.

I personally wouldn't go for an LED but that's because I prefer the plasma picture quality, but that's totally subjective though and depends on what you really want from your screen.

No 3D, if that is a thing your looking for?

But it can be had for 550 which is a bonus.

the 42" of the ST30 is a tad over 500 on the rainforest.

Seems to just be a store specific version, couldn't see the difference in specs myself when researching. Got the regular ST30 in the end with a 5 year warranty, lovely picture on it andworth the money over the UT.
