Hi,

I have an i5 CPU 760 @2.80GHz oc 4.01GHz with 4GB RAM.

I'm looking to increase the memory, two slots are currently empty.

The other 2 have 2x2GB.

I'm looking at possibly getting another 2x2gb increasing the total RAM to 8GB.

Will this be ok as my processor has been overclocked?

Any suggestions?

TIA

Hi there and welcome to the OCUK forums :)

When you add more RAM sticks to a system like that you put more strain on the memory controller (which is on the CPU). This usually reduces the maximum stable memory frequency and limits the level of CPU overclocking you can do.

Therefore, if you want to upgrade to 8GB of RAM, then I would suggest buying a 2x4GB kit like this and sell on your 2x2GB kit. With this, you should be able to leave your overclock as it is.

Here is a good value 8GB kit.

If you do add another 2x2GB kit to the existing one then you may well be able to achieve 4GHz CPU clockspeed you currently have, but you will likely need to redo your overclock to achieve this.

Thanks

Thanks for the advice. Yes, that sounds good to me. :)
