BMW F10 530d M-Sport: On-going Review!!

Probably a 528i if it was registered before July 2011. There is the odd one of those around, it was replaced with a 4 cylinder turbo last year. It was the lowest power 3.0.

The 530i only came out in July but it seems an odd addition to the range and I have never, ever seen one for sale.

Oh and I had a quote for the dealer fitting a removable tow bar....

£1,600

I chose not to right now....
When I bought my e39 530d Sport, I received a similar quote. In the end, I bought the exact towbar and the required diffuser and insert from BMW and fitted it myself. It was fairly easy in the end. I just had a very quick look:

You might find better/cheaper and I have no idea whether or not you'll need to go to BMW for the required diffuser and insert like the e39, but you can see it's a hell of a lot cheaper, even if you need to pay to get it fitted.

Nice car, definitely the spiritual successor to the e39!

First impressions...

It's a tidy example and no issues so far. Paint and wheels are all bang on bar a small touched up stone chip on the bonnet but other than that all good. Sat Nav will need some learning as it bought me back via the worst route in history, so probably the setting I chose but after adjusting it to quickest it was still not the ideal route, jury out on it at the moment, not least as it didn't recognise my home post code. Ride is a bit firm and I can see why they suggest the adaptive suspension if it addresses that but I also put a lot of it down to the run **** tyres.

Gearbox is incredible, smooth and well sorted it seems so far especially in sport mode and the engine pulls like a steam train and so much more get up and go than the 2L version. Steering feels OK if not brilliant, but nice weight and it does seem to hustle quite nicely from my testing today. Seats are MILES better than my previous BMW sports seats, much softer and cosseting and a feeling of sitting in not on, which is nice, but I am not sure there is a lumber button on these and that I will miss I suspect. Got the Y lead so the iPhone works fully with the dash TV, album art, playlists etc, really nicely integrated. Averaged 36.8mpg on my somewhat brisk run today, at cruise in a 50mph section we were seeing 55mpg which is very impressive, I expect circa 40mpg once it's doing the day job which is not too bad.

So far I like a lot and think I will be happy with it, but time will tell.

You can enter them but it only works down to the first 4 which is probably why you found it didn't recognise your postcode.

I think the very newest ones now do but think its post 2011.

I'll have a fiddle with it tomorrow, I got the manual out to read but I got bored already as 89 pages on taking the fuel filler cap off did for me.

Looks like the perfect mile muncher Housey. Whats the deal with runflats then, will you swap those out? I've always wondered what the true situation is if you do that and get a flat... do BMW Assist say no chance sunshine?

Very nice! I only ever see them in black but I think silver suits it quite well. :)

As for the 4 digit postcode rubbish... who on earth thought that would be a good idea?

There is no spare so you need to have a BMW Mobility system to deal with flat tyres. I think there is still a lot of vibration because of the run flats, I think the active suspension deals with it much better but I think the run flats are where the problems start. I won't swap them off until they wear out and I shall try and locate one to drive without run flats to see if my assumptions are correct. It is a very good mile muncher of that there is little doubt and it goes very very well, more than enough oomph.

I've spoken with the supplying dealer today to see if they are willing to do a deal on upgrading my Sat Nav to the latest version with the 7 digit post codes. The new system looks very slick, but I fear like most in car systems it's still a half way house and not as functional or upgradeable as a TomTom. I will of course put up with it as the TomTom looks crap plugged into the screen, but if the dealer comes back and tells me £500 I shall tell them to go forth and multiply. I'm hoping they will 'look after me' to ensure they get my future custom, but time will tell I suppose.

Re the Sat Nav, BMW sat Nav in a 2010 car won't do full postcode lookup.

Pathetic really.

Any idea why it's taken so long (2011) for BMW to produce a sat nav which has full postcode lookup? As you say it's pathetic really.
