Connecting Blu Ray Player to TV

Well really.. he needs a new TV because its going to look poo.

But, for the sake of answering the question youve two options.

1. HDMI to Component cable. This will still be a digital signal and the best quality.

2. Yellow Video phono from Bluray to SVideo on TV. This will be horrible picture, and you will need seperate audi cable.

But really.. he needs a new TV because its going to look poo... wait, did I say that already?

So yeah, Get a new Tv.

Do those even work? I'm sure I've read somewhere that they're pointless because the situations in which they can actually be used are so few and far between.

Phono to S-video will work, but sending analog signals to an SDTV is basically going to nullify any benefit of watching a Blu Ray over a DVD.

Yeah, I think it's time for a new TV.

As HDMI is a digital signal cable and component video is analogue, there must be some kind of conversion electronics included in the cable line?

That's the sort of thing I'm getting at... You either need a TV that can accept digital component input (does such a thing exist?) or you need an expensive cable with active electronics onboard.

HDMI is a pure digital (and encrypted!) signal. Component however is an analog signal. To convert HDMI to Component you will require a converter box which aren't cheap. The picture quality will also be slightly degraded depending on the quality of the converter box, not that you will notice this much on an SD CRT TV.

Why did he purchase a High-Definition Blu-Ray player when he has an old CRT SD telly? Personally I think he would be silly investing £50-£100 on a redunant converter box and analogy cables. He's better off putting that money in a savings account towards a nice new FullHD (1080p) LED/LCD/Plasama television.

I've not really answered your question but it's good advice.

you can get bluray players with component outputs, but they aren't cheap and I think they downscale everything that goes through that output to PAL resolution anyway
