Yo,

I've been using unblock-us.com to watch US Netflix on my ps3 for a while now, but recently they introduced checks to help prevent ps3 users using their service for free.

My free trial ended yesterday (although Netflix US is still working) and to carry on the service I'd have to pay (£4 ish a month I think).

Now I'm happy to pay this as its quite cheap, but of course if there is a free alternative I'd use that, anyone know of any free alternatives to unblock-us? Ideally a simple DNS change like how unblock-us works would be preferred, but anything I'd like to take a look at?

As mentioned, happy to pay but just thought I'd check if u guys know other services before I do.

Ta

there is a thread about this somewhere .... you can change your dns settings on your ps3 watch netflix. just swap it back after use

Yea I know, that is what I'm doing, and the thread u are referring to mentions the site I use already. I'm looking for a free alternative.

if it still works then just keep using it :D

I intend to my good man, no worries there :)

However, I need a contingency plan for when it goes pear shaped, so looking for viable solutions here.

I have done some searching and they are all paid for services so I don't think there are any freebies, but you never know, I may have missed one!

I'm still on my free trial with unblock US, but today when I try to log on to the US Netflix via my PS3 it acts like my account doesn't exist. The UK one works fine though.
Anyone else experiencing the same?

Open up a browser window on ya ps3 and try to go to a website, you sent to the unblock-us proxy page?

Mine was working for about a month before they cut me off. Started having trouble loading the app and eventually stopped working altogether. UK version is fine but I really must sign up for real.

Because you need to log into the uk one, switch DNS and just refresh the page ;)
You dont have a US login, it's a UK one, you're using UK login but the US content servers

Not quite sure why you're paying for the DNS service (unless I'm reading it wrong??). Just change the DNS settings within your network settings.

Because the DNS setting were provided by a company who have out the settings as a trial. Once the trial expired you either have to sign up and pay or go else where.

That's weird. There's free DNS servers out there.

I set it up on my fiancee's brothers PS3 and didn't sign up to anything other than Netflix, same with my xbox.

Don't think that is the case, as far as I'm aware, Netflix does not have locality specific accounts, they are global. It determines what content to show you based on your location when logging in.

I setup my Netflix account whilst on my UK DNS, but I connect fine to the US Netflix with this same account, I just change my DNS to make Netflix think I'm in the states.

I think the only option now is to get your wallets out. I've changed dns settings several times now, some just flat out don't work, others will work for a day or two and then stop. I'd much rather pay a measly £4 a month than have to hunt out new dns settings, then change it repeatedly everytime they get wise to it.

Agreed, I'm gonna do this shortly too. You using unblock-us.com?

Im paying for unblock-us and its been fine so far, apparently you have to go back onto their web site if or when your ip address changes but mine has been ok for the 6 weeks or so ive been using it.

Well worth it to be able to get the US content on netflix.
