there goes my wet t-shirt competition.
We should be glad the Victorians over-engineered so much as the pipe situation could be much worse. Now we have for-profit companies running the show the system is never going to be upgraded.
Unfortunately when the beurocratic public sector was in charge they proved to be incompetent.
So now we have an ancient water system, and ancient railway network and no money or motivation to fix it. Standard Government response is, as always, to screw over us taxpayers.
so what are you avid gardeners going to do?tips please!

My plan was to let me son water the vegetables with a hose. I'd turn the tap on and go inside and leave him to his own devices.
I'd like to see them fine a 2 1/2 year old![]()
Perhaps they're right. Perhaps, just perhaps, there's a scientific reason why snow cannot actually help water levels if conditions aren't right. It may seem silly to you, but I would imagine you're not an expert on snow (apologies if you are).

How about using a watering can? Hoses are incredibly wasteful.

They could still fine you since you gave your son the hosepipe, turned on the tap, are the house owner/renter and the responsible adult. And since you purposely tried to flaunt the law they would probably try harder to fine you.

Thames Water is taking up to two months to fix leaking pipes despite claiming an average repair time of five days.
Britain's biggest water supplier is wasting millions of litres of water a day by failing to respond to the public earlier, a BBC investigation found.
Thames is one of seven water companies introducing hosepipe bans from 5 April, blaming drought conditions.
Since being contacted by Watchdog, Thames Water has removed the "five day" claim from its website.
The company admitted its response to leaks "isn't good enough" in some cases.
The BBC's Watchdog programme calculated that a leak from one basement of a central London flat lost up to 130,000 litres in two months.
The home owner, Jeremy Gompertz, reported the leak nine times and described the company's response as "scandalous".
Companies have put £82bn of investment into the water/wastewater network since privatisation.
I thought snow was made out of water and when snow melts .... oh nevermind

Will people please stop posting that we get enough water, rain this year has been very hard to come by, in the south the main link for the grand union canal is shut, the resivors at tring have no water to feed, they are at a all time low. Ok canal might not be big fry for some of you but this is the sign of the times at the moment. Let me remind you that anytime a major fire happens local to a Canal, the Canal is used as a water supply, we have empty canals down here.
Its a serious issue and some of you seem to ignore the fact water is very important to us all, maybe we are all above it and think we will get through, I am sure we will but help yourselves as well as others.
