Cex are good for games

You could have at least given them a chance to rectify it, Ive had pretty great customer service whenever Ive had to deal with them.

The Birmingham branch have great staff and a smallish selection of mostly older games but at pretty good prices. Mainly use them to get rid of old graphics cards and stuff that I can't be bothered to put on ebay.
 
It would have been my word against their word mate that is also why I didn't bother and I also didn't like the idea they might put that card back up for sale to pass on to some other poor victim or tourist that wouldn't realise till he/she got home to check his/her holiday pictures. You really need to see the CEX on Tottenham court road in London and see what I mean, also everytime i'm there they are fighting with the customers about something or another... CEX in Leeds is like amazing compared to them on Tottenham court road in London. In the end I feel I did the right thing snapping and binning it and saved myself a headache and saved some other person a headache that might have repurchased it. Lesson learned mate always check such things are not fake before you leave the store.

Used to use it to sell and buy Gamecube games, no point in it anymore since i only play PC games, and programs like STEAM appeared.

That's just supply and demand. If there's low demand for that CPU they can lowball you. And presumably the odds of selling one of those on are low so they'll want to get all they can from whoever actually does want such a CPU.
 
I bought a 3DS when they came out and within about a week realised I'd only used it about 3 times so took it into CEX. The guy in there told me the screen was scratched and that he could only offer me about £70 for it...I was pretty annoyed and said as much, someone else behind the counter heard me telling him how stupid he is and had a look, she cleaned the screen and it was fine. Apparently he'd got the marks made by the stylus confused with scratches. They still gave me a ***** price for a week old console.

That's only one example, they'll always tell you that there's something wrong with what you're trying to sell so that they can get it for cheaper.
 
Let me say this, the CEX in Tottenham Court Rd has not changed in 1 iota for the last 15 years. It is very seedy, customer service is appalling and as mentioned earlier in this thread it's full of College drop outs...
 
I buy from CEX quite often. Seem to offer the better prices round here. You can always ask to check the discs before you buy them if you wanted to, just like you could anywhere. Sell to them often as well and again never had an issue.

Had an issue with an Xbox 360 and they swapped it out straight away, no problem there. Quite happy with them :)
 
I've bought various bits and bobs from them over the years- generally very happy with what I get. The random box sets they sometimes get in are great - Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes collection was <£25 - was chuffed with that.

I did however buy a stick of ram from them which didn't work. I took it back to them and they game me a full refund. However, said stick was in the window again the next day :(
 
Always thought my local CEX and all other shops of the same format to be expensive for second hand goods.

Maybe it depends on the area?

They have games in there most of which can be bought new for the same price, let alone the other gear they try to sell.
 
Ah, I remember the days when they were staffed by computer enthusiasts. Used to go into the one in Harrow and chat for hours. Bought my first matched pair of Voodoo IIs from them - SLI from a bygone age :)

Sadly they seem to be staffed with people who failed the entrance exam for Currys these days.
 
CEX is awful lol.
ive tried ordering stuff online with them in the past to either be told that theyve ran out of what i wanted or the order to take ages, even if it shows up!
then when you want to go into the store, there's a certain type of gremlin that lurks about there... /shudder!
 
I ask my wife to take my old graphics card in to cex to get some cash for it (gtx 295) I have done this before with my gtx 260 and they kept it for 2 hours to check it worked, This time they said to my wife they need to send it off to test it. My wife did not ring me to check and said ok. I would love to know who is testing my card, I can't see them sending it off to someone who knows what they are doing in 24 hours and get it back to the shop. I think when i get it back it will be a smoking dead card, with err it did not work.
We will see :(
 
The only thing I ever use CEX for is getting trade in prices for Gamestation to match, for everything else they're awful.
