just tried polishing the exhaust on my car and im not getting all the tatty bits out so i think i need to my hands on some wire wool

looking at using it with autosol metal polish

ive had a look and have found 450g fine grade wire wool

was wandering @ £4.50 is that ok?
 
I wouldn't use wire wool tbh, unless it's really bad. When I do mine I use 2500 flatting paper, the stuff you use to flat car bodies. You can get it from halfords or any car shop really. Give it a flat with that, then polish. I use meguiars all metal polish, brings it to a mirror finish, you can see your face in it :D
 
You want 00 gauge wire wool for exhausts I'm told.

I, however, have always used autosol and an old 4" cutting pad, giving it a final buff by pulling a microfiber over it (like you'd polish a shoe), it works so well that I've never felt the need to try wire wool.
 
I'd go for 0000 grade wire wool, and as said above the polish isn't much worth it for the cleaning up, anything mildly abrasive will work. I used window cleaner and 0000 wire wool for mine and these are the results after just 5 minutes of scrubbing: http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm20/shauncr91/Fiesta/z0rst.jpg

I treated mine with metal polish afterwards but it didn't make a bit of difference. Also note that you don't need loads of wool, I used two bits both about the size of a thumb (One to shift the grime, another to clean and shine it) and it was enough to do the entire tip.

Tripple 0 as in 000 wire wool at the very minimum & also if you read the Autosol small print it says Not for Chrome :confused: + :p
Best off going to your local cobblers/shoe/key bloke & buying some proper Silver polish then it will come up Mint.
Use the 000 first then some autosol gently & then the Silver polish to buff. :cool:
 
I would think so, you're going to get scratches anyway it's just that they'll be miniscule so it'll be very hard to spot amongst the shiny metal.

A thought occurred to me as a result of this post......... What about the solution used to make jewellery shine? My mrs uses it on her jewellery and they dont half shine afterwards!

If the solution is safe to use on chrome that would give it an extra sparkle! :D
 
gna it another go over the weekend with the micro fibre and polish i have atm

will post pic up guys :) its fairly shiny tbh just want its to be like that all over :)

If its tarnished that won't bring it up that well.

Trust my first post, the first reply to this thread. I've used this method on rocker covers, dump valves, exhausts loads of things. You need to remove the crap with something like wire wool, then flat it with fine flatting paper. This will remove all surface imperfections, then polish. The meguiars i mentioned is very good, the best i've used. Polished 2 alloy rocker covers to a mirror finish. If also leaves a protective layer to protect it which none of the others mentioned in this thread will do.
