hia i bought a MSI 6970 lighting (advertised as twin forzr II) in January. all was great at first. temps in MW3 for example would peak t 57 degrees C. lately i have seen a rather large spike in temps. i done a test earlier in mW3 and to my shock, temps hit around 76 degrees C.

im writing this to see what my options are. i could replace TIM. or could i contact MSI OCUK about repair/replacement.?
thanks!

Whilst I'm sure the change in temps might bother you, I doubt MSI would do anything for 76c nor wud OcUK. Although with a cooler like that which is built into the price, you could argue that it's not fit for purpose etc etc but tbh, I would just either leave it as is (give your case a good clean) or replace the TIM as you say.

76C is hardly a problem at all. The reason you would get different temp is that the graphic are stressed at different level at different situation...sometimes stress more, sometimes stress less depending the situation.

With that said, for MW3 I would imagine a 6970 would probably been delivering frame at above 60fps. Considering that standard monitors wouldn't display beyond 60fps, you should use MSI Afterburner's feature to cap the frame rate at 60fps...that way your 6970 won't be put under additional load and rendering extra frame rate beyond 60fps which your monitor won't be able to display anyway. Less stress=lower power consumption=lower temp :D

I use to see my 5850 go to as high as 68-72C when under load, but with frame rate capped at 60fps, now I hardly see it beyond 63-65C, except for the demanding titles.

Strange how there is a sudden heat increase all of a sudden. Case is a thermal take spedo advance so air flow isn't a issue. I've given it a clean a few weeks ago with compressed air, do you think that could have done something to cause heat to increase?

reapplied TIM. temps at first where reduced by 7-8 degrees. but now im shooting straight up into 80's. 90degrees + in fur mark. tut tut.
