iv been driving around with 250kg of cement bags in the boot of a mk3 fiesta, my bro says i should not have it loaded like that, but if iv had 3 fat blokes in the back of the car weighing 115kg, 120kg and 111kg then surely 250kg cement bags in the boot would be fine?
car seemed to drive fine with the added hit of loss of acceleration due to weight which is normal for any car especially small petrol engine cars no?

what do you guys say?

Think you would struggle to get 3 guys weighing that much into the back seats of nearly any car... (probably most likely because they would through up a fuss getting shoved in without much space :p)

Did you not think to check the manual for the recommended maximum load? That'll tell you if it's ok or not. Under that, you'll just be slower accelerating/slower breaking, but as long as you adapt to those, it's fine.

manual just says something about max towing weight such as caravan which was 640kg or something. nothing about how much you can stick in the boot.

Strange... Thought most had a maximum "load" weight, might be wrong though.

Personally, I would try to spread the weight around a little if carrying heavy loads (maybe stick some in the rear foot-well/passenger foot-well if you're driving alone?

More importantly have you adjusted your dip beam using that little toggle switch?

what on a mk3 fiesta? your having a laugh.

also gonna be making another trip this time i can cut the number of trips i do if i put the back seats down and put another ten bags in, that will make it 500kg in total!!

guess i will find out how much endurance the 1.3 endura engine actually has.

Why not just hire a van like anyone else does when they need to carry 500kg of building materials? A Mk3 Fiesta is hardly a safe vehicle to load up like that is it?

why waste money on hiring a van when you got a perfectly good fiesta on the driveway that can do the job for free. (+petrol costs)

then why would yo uwaste time by asking here to jut plainly ignore any advice given, unless overloading a fiesta somehow gives you epeen??? ....buttercups...

i asked if people knew what the limit was. no one seems to know and people are just guessing without hard evidence. so only way to find out is to try it and see. i think it will be fine as long as the weight in the back is not too much that the front of the car lifts off the ground.
will find out tomorrow.

Do report back.
If the front of the car does start lifting of the ground you could always load a few more on the bonnet to even it out anyway right?

This might help???

:)

Your original post also makes it sounds like you're doing this for fun, with no mention of why or the distance being covered, yeah, half a story and all.

LOL

Let's spend £50 a day because 250kg is surely too much for a car to carry.

If you drop the rear seats & have the bags tight up behind the front seats I can't see a problem unless you hit summit & the bags push your face through the steering wheel. :D

pfft should be fine as long as you distribute the load evenly.

stick a couple of backs in the front footwell and put the back seats down and pile it in.

to give you some perspective,

400kg of laminate in the back of a vectra does this

man up and get it done

250kg shouldn't be a problem - that's not much different to carrying three passengers, so spread the load as others have said; drop the back seats and load the weight further forward. Then adjust your driving accordingly.

An extra half a ton though? I wouldn't want to try that.

What does a Mk3 Fiesta weigh?

Is the car a banger being run into the ground or some nice example you intend to keep.

I have been running a Mk2 Mondeo whilst doing up a flat and it has been loaded right up and ran to the tip loads of times. It cannot be good for the suspension but it's going in a couple of weeks so doesn't matter.

Look on the door plate for the gross weight and kerb weight. Gross weight - kerb weight = the max load you can carry (including yourself.. unless Ford are using European Directive 95/48/EC for your MK3, in which case they have included the weight of a 75kg driver in the kerb weight).

With 250kg, you run the risk of the shocks blowing a gooey load all over the road and a crap ride afterwards. All it takes is a pothole or something to cause high pressure in the shock to make it pop!
